Hello,
My recent retroish mtb project has come to a halt when I've purchased a really nice stem, in my eyes anyway, that comes with the old american / bmx style steerer size of 13/16" (21.15mm). The steerer tube on my old Diamond Back bike is for 1 1/8" quill so the shim is needed. I've already purchased the standard 25.4mm - 22.2mm shim but that wont work well and I don't have spare dosh for replacement teeth so I'm not willing to take that risk.
Can you make a shim for me or point me toward someone who would be happy to help?
Many thanks in advance!
And a small teaser of what's to come:
Would something like this work?
1" x 14swg - 25.4mm OD with 2mm wall thickness - so only 0.25mm too big ID
A neat cut and it should give you enough leeway, but be snug enough - and only a few quid for a 50mm sample so you could try it for peanuts
Where are you based? Anyone with a lathe could knock one up, I could do it but won’t get a chance to get to send it if your not local (which is quite likely)
@Jonathan: many thanks - I think I might actually buy 200mm as it's much better value for money and gives me more options to do it properly. Top Man!
@Kevs: Many thanks for your kind offer, I'm in sunny Brum and would be willing to do the 1 hour drive trip if you're not too far away...unless I've agents in your neck of the woods 😉
A small piece of a coke can might do the job.
I’m on the Devon/Cornwall border, but far to drive for a shim 😳
