Primarily for an upcoming road tour, eVent or similar and not breaking the bank.

You know what to do... 😀

(Thanks!)

Got a Gill one which is pretty good, the DHB eVent is the same coat, but if I was buying new the Altura Attack eVent (with pit-zips) would be on my list (and is cheaper than the DHB!).

I have a dhb wickham (eVent) jacket and would recommend it. Very light and breathable. Lacks pockets though, if thats important to you.

I got a refund on 2 "waterproof" jackets for not being waterproof:-

1 x Altura @ £89.99 - lost waterproof/ water beading after 1 wash in non bio
1 x Madison @ 69.99 - lost waterproof/ water beading after 1 wash in non bio

I made the point in both cases that it was not fit for purpose, and that regularly using "NikWax" or "Graingers" and then tumbledrying was not an option.

I have used Goretex for many years when I have been out Hiking, Climbing or just plain living in Manchester. So I know it does what it says on the tin.

I looked at the GORE jackets - v.nice - but £200+... as always you pay through the short and curlies if it has any association with "specialised biking equipment". So I popped next door to Blacks - tried on a few of their "Outdoor" jackets - settled on a Berghaus Goretex Mera Peak, left the shop and bagged one on the internet for £140. No Hi-Vis stickers, no small-of back pocket. Job done.

Kit - I believe there is a little bike shop in Edinburgh village, which you may have heard of and may be able to help with your jacket / pannier / pedal issues.

The bike chain mail or something?

Ugggh, that lot? They're all a bunch of useless, layabout, unfriendly w*nkers who wouldn't know their sprockets from their chainrings!

😀

Besides, they have plenty of my money already, and more is coming their way... 🙁

I've got a PACE event jacket, as reviewed last year in the mag. Didn't get a lot of winter riding in sadly, but on the occasions I did I needed a good waterproof, and it did the job. In comparison to an old goretex 2 layer, much more breathable, pack size reasonable, nowhere near paclite sizes though. Decent sized zip pocket on the back. Rainproofing durability seems pretty good, has survived washing in none bio without problems a few times in the winter.

Price is around £100, which didn't seem too bad to me for a cycling specific event waterproof. Order direct from PACE, delivery was quite fast IIRC.

Downsides I could see for you would be the colour, a rather nice MTB friendly slate grey, not really road/visibility friendly.

Kit, I have the Gill Event jacket which I find to be very good. Very light, waterproof but no pockets if thats a requirement. I know CRC had them for about £65 but no idea on prioe at the moment.
