Hi all, am getting all mixed up with new rear mech descriptions. I need a new rear 9 speed mech, and want XTR that's compatible with my very old shifters. My existing mech is a M952.
Do I need a M971 or M972? The rear mech needs to default to the smallest cog when the cable is relaxed to be compatible with my shifter.
thanks

That'll be top normal you need.

You can use either, the shifting just goes the other way around which may/may not be better. But sounds like you want top normal.

Tinas, quite right in that either could be used, in fact when I had low normal/rapid rise I quite liked it.
