LOL - I'm guessing you got wet recently then?
I'm afraid that, regardless of what you might read, waterproofedness and breathability are a bit of a balancing act. You can't get something which is amazingly breathable and fully waterproof. You need to work out what you're willing to sacrifice and what sort of conditions it's for.
For good breathability and showerproof, I use a Montane Velo. Light, small, easy to pack away for emergencies. Dries quickly when damp.
For "summer" waterproofing I use a Berghaus Paclite. Not too bulky for carrying. Good for longer trips when I'll be away from shelter for a long time.
For winter, I'm going to invest in an Endura Stealth. Bit too warm for summer. It would be bulky to carry around, but I'd be wearing it all day anyway.
lol ....
no not got really wet recently but sitting here today and it's been pissing down and I want to ride so thought about some upgrades to my crinkly old gore paclite etc
Have you properly washed and proofed the Paclite. Treating it properly will restore its performance.
I like my Endrua eVent jacket but the DWR coating came off in the first ride where my camelbak touched it. Not overly impressed with that but if you're not using a camelbak, it's a good jacket.
As far as waterproof softshell's go Endura Stealth's take some beating - uber breatheable too.
Unfortunately far too warm for anything much above 10 degrees.
Another thumbs up for the stealth, i only got wet inside mine once throughout all of last winter and i think this happened as it had got caught above my camelback chest strap causing a perfect little pool(it was seriously p-ssing it down as well!).
Paramo is incredibly breathable and water proof
But probably a bit warm as a summer biking top
