Step forward the Maxxis Beaver 2.25. I think you could literally leave it on ALL YEAR round on the front. Its that good IMO.

You could run two Ardents of course but then in squiffy rain you could just fit a Beaver and leave it..

:mrgreen:

Just out of curiosity.. what other tyres have you tried up front with the ardent on the back?
I was looking at getting a butcher but haven't gotten round to buying yet.

Beaver not really big enough in the dry though surely...

Winter = Beaver
Summer = Chunky Monkey

Beaver just seems a weird choice, mud tyre on the front to match a fast tyre on the rear?

Butcher for me, Butchers are the little black dress of tyres.

I'd never run an ardent on the rear (29er) I find them far to "steer-y" front only.

Agree about the beavers tho, they roll really well & the fatter version is better

Minion front / ardent rear on my hardtail.

Was thinking of sticking a skinny beaver on the front of my rigid hack bike which currently has. Conty travel contacts front and back.
For mid week early evening blasts round my local woods, as I have some in the loft.

Ardents front and back for meon the 29er. Advantage front and back on the 26er

I'm now running ardent 2.4" front, 2.25" rear. Super fast and plenty of grip.

I love my Single Ply Minion 2.35 front.

Use a Medusa rear all year round too as it grips plenty and despite being a mud tyre its lasted really well.

Had a swampthing on front for years then a HR2. The 2.25 Beaver is a small nobbly mud tyre. Like the Hr2 On rocks etc it doesnt say anything. It doesnt struggle or complain.

Its light too and has EXO 🙂

Ardents are very sketchy on the front when cornering in anything but perfectly dry conditions. Dual ply minion on the front for me but I am tempted by minion kevlar 2.3 to get the weight down.

Just how big is a 2.5 minion dhf? I've got a mountain king 2.4 up front at the minute, but I'm not sure it's the right tyre up front for me.
