Just took delivery of one of the bargain Ragley Marleys from CRC, however it has arrived and when unboxed it was damaged - a number of chips/scratches (including one down to the metal of the frame), a bent disc rotor, missing end cap on a hub, and brakes heavily in need of a bleed.

I don't think its time to pin blame on CRC, these things happen, but obviously I would like to get it sorted.

However I would rather not send the bike back, I've got in touch with CRC and am awaiting their reply (live chat not working). Has anyone had any (recent?) experience of this sort of thing with CRC and what have they done about it?

Thanks

A mate had a heavily damaged ebike arrive... After (alot) emailed and live chat negotiation over about three days he had them replacing all the parts and paying for a shop to fit everything (as it was an ebike). There's no customer service telephone number and he found it a complete ball ache as it was a slow stressful process trying to do it via email / chat.

Update on this - they are willing to offer me £30 gift voucher, and are rooting around for an end cap and a new rotor.

Otherwise I can return for a full refund. I'm not sure the best course of action here - it seems a waste of a bargain bike for the sake of an end cap and a rotor

I think that’s basically the minimum I’d expect. But it is a bargain - if it was something you could replace elsewhere I’d ask for more (call their bluff) or return it. Depends how bad the scratches are? If they’re not too bad - it will get scratched anyway - and they find the end cap and new rotor I would say that’s ok

Well that's what I was thinking - it could have been perfect and then I crashed on the first ride and scratched it anyway and it wouldn't have bothered me.

Will see if they can find an end cap 'out the back'

If it was second hand at that price, in that condition, would you have bought it?

Yes- keep it
No- return it.

If you want to ride around on a pristine bike, mountain biking is the wrong hobby for you. All my bikes are imperfect. I try to keep them nice.

Full suss- gouge from crashing
Hardtail- chip of paint fell off- repainted with hammering.
Commuter- marks from bags on the to frame polished out mostly
Road bike- stone chips
Pub bike - chips from being changed up.

Chips and scratches to me would mean I'd be less sad when I eventually chipped and scratched it.

But if you have paid new price and want a new looking bike ( which Is reasonable) send it back and get something unmarked

Bought on a credit card ?

Do you have tje £££ or credit limit to buy a 2nd ?

And are they in stock ?

If so I'd buy a 2nd one, then once you have it and it's OK, return the damaged one for a refund.  If CRC go tits up in the gap then kick it back to the credit card company as their problem.

So as a solution, CRC have sent a brand new wheel and two new rotors. Plus I'm able to keep the existing wheel (which is missing and end cap) and the bent rotor. Plus, I've been given a £30 voucher.

All in all I think it's a fairly good resolution and so I'll take that.

Anyone want to buy a 27.5 wheel minus one end cap....?
