Further to looking at options for tomorrow - if I did a loop of NCN71 from Keswick to Whitehaven, Workington, Cockermouth and back would the off-road bits be ok on 28mm Schwalbe Marathons?

I rode C2C i.e 71 on my roadie. Use the road to Whinlatter from Braithwaite. Other than that there was about 100m of gravel from Lamplugh school on the start of the cycletrack that runs right into Whitehaven. Not aware of any other bits. Broken glass and dog shit are the biggest hazards "in town" 😯

I can plot you a route that won't involve any off road. Give me half an hour and I'll email it over.

Harris - sorry buddy. I'd already set off for Keswick.

I'm sitting in a creperie in Whitehaven at the moment and I can confirm that 28mm Marathons are less than ideal for the off-road bits at Whinlatter.

Tyre choice is the least of your worries if you're eating food in Whitehaven 🙂
Stay upright.
