You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Dear All,
Currently planning a NC500 bikepacking circuit in Apr this year. I was planning Inverness to Applecross as the first leg but it looks like the best train will get me to Inverness at about 2 in the afternoon so I clearly won't make AC on day 1. Therefore am looking at a wildcamp option somewhere about 2 hours or 25 miles or so West. It's either that or look for somewhere to stay in Inverness but that rather defeats the object for me.
Any experience or suggestions?
Cheers

You've never wild camped in Scotland until you've spent the night in a bus shelter. Did the same in Kinlochleven one wintery night - couldn't find a suitable camping spot, so we just used the shelter. Woken in the morning by commuters unhappy they couldn't get out the rain.
There's an actual campsite at Contin- with a shop. Might be a nice start. You could easily camp in the Contin forest car park (where the Strathpuffer runs) if you really want to avoid paying for the site.
Watch the road between Contin and Garve. It's really less than ideal for cycling with poor sightlines and high speeds. If your bike is gravel capable then the track to the north side of Loch Garve is a good alternative and would also provide wild camp spots.
Scotroutes,
Great suggestions and thanks. The bike is definately gravel capable so will put in the track N of Loch Garve. It's less the avoidance of paying and more the freedom of choice that I am after. I am planning to stop at the campsite in Applecross and I have booked the YH at Durness on the Sunday night so that is my only fixed point. Other than that I will just see how it goes.

If you go into Garve, make sure you buy a burger from the van.
Their Little Wyvis burger will fuel you for the rest of your ride.
Don't even contemplate its bigger version... 🙂
I'm local to that area, and scotroutes suggestion is a good one. The only proviso is if it has been raining heavily, there's a ford which can come up really quickly.
