You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Finished building this up today - "budget" build based on s/h frame and mainly ebay sourced parts - it's actually the drop bar Bahookie frame so a bit shorter then the one I already have - so lends itself nicely to the monster-wide curly bars! Gearing needs a fettle yet (waiting on a bigger cog and more suitable chain) but rolls along lovely.....
And just for the hell of it, here's a pic of the one I already had - this was bought new and a fairly major present to myself when I was recovering from a broken back 5 years ago (thought I'd never ride again for a while but deffo have recovered now!). Spec has changed slightly since this pic - it now has a Thomson post and some superb Terravail tyres on it - the Canyon leaf-spring seatpost has ended up on my gravel bike where it was needed more!!
And yes, I do know how lucky I am to own two of these beauties!
Very nice although I sense your concept of the word budget and mine may be different.
Wow things of beauty!
They look great. Made me smile.
@garage-dweller - I think you’re right to pull me up on that really, I should have added something like “….for a Shand”!
the frame was s/h and wasn’t cheap but I’ve kept the spend on the parts low by shopping around......brakes are Clarks that I got for £42 brand new on ebay (inc rotors!) - bars were £30 from Deportvillage, which is loads less than I could find them anywhere else - cranks were £55 from Merlin - you get the picture! But all up, for a s/h bike with no gears it was't exactly bargain basement to build I suppose!
I had the wheels already on another bike but bought some cheap ex display 29ers to go on that in their place…..they would have been almost as spendy as the frame otherwise to be fair......
Well done, is lovely, especially with the big tyres. My ss bahookie is the bike I go to when I want to feel happy
Something about Shands that just make me want one. The depth of the paint finish possibly.

They just look right and well proportioned too.
I've looked a couple of times over the years but when hitting £5k for a steel hardtail my inner Scrooge has a word...
Very nice! I've got those Ritchey Buzzard bars on my Surly and they are super comfortable.

Had a great chat (and a caramel wafer) with Steve at a cycle show years ago, and ended up going for a lovely, slightly cheaper alternative.
Might be looking for a gravel bike in the next year or two. I'm a long way down the Ti fanboi rabbit hole, but a Shand still tempts me.

I’ve been for a first ride on it today and really didn’t get on with the bars!! It’s back with risers already!!
if anyone is after some Ritchey Buzzards, let me know!!
Went for a longer ride on it yesterday (now with risers) - superb - it’s a while since my last singlespeed so I’d forgotten about the quietness, the simplicity, and the hills……😬

I don't think Steve is involved now Shands are built in Coventry by the Trillium/Rideworks guys

As an inbetween, maybe try some Stooge Moto's?
Looking great.
How many Shand's are we going to get on the Singlespeed's start line this year?
