There's a nice little feel-good cycling story on the BBC website, it puts most people's commutes in the shade!
Will Smith got him a new bike too.

Doesn;t say what bike he bought him. We need to judge!!
Looks like an old school looking trek with a very steep head angle in the bbc article

Oops misssed that. You'd have though he'd have got him something a bit better than that though!
Could be one of the better bikes in a local shop? So what was available.

Yeah, a right slap in the face for the poor lad 🤣
Looks like an old school looking trek...
They fooled you then.
I'd kinda assume they asked someone to buy the bike locally, rather than ship one out to him...
I'm confused as this looks like a decent bike.. maybe the bbc were being lazy and using a stock image (shocker)

and this one wasn't terrible looking either

The Trinx bike is the one that gets wheeled into him on Will Smith's video...
"This is Will Smith!" a smiling Mr Barry said. "A lot of your films I love."
And some, not so much... 😂
Hmm, perhaps putting Will Smith in the title was a bit of a distraction; I thought it might grab people's attention.
The story's not really the bike he was given, the story's that he rode the bike he had for 4 months and 4000 miles across Africa (which I imagine is none to forgiving, even if you're used to it), through various trouble zones, getting arrested several times etc. It's quite a story and quite a backpacking adventure. The recognition and bike he got from Mr Smith was a nice addition.
It also highlights that, whilst many bikes here could be seen as expensive play things, in other parts of the world a basic BSO can be a real life changer.
Well I was impressed.
