You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Largely inspired by the recent singlespeed world champs article and partly by a recent hardtails thread, I'm now the happy owner of a new-to-me very yellow Cotic BFe MAX. Spotted on PB classifieds, collected at the weekend, built last night. Not SS-specific but as much as I aspire to owning a SS again, realistically I know I'd hardly ride it. Steel it is though.
There was nothing wrong with my outgoing hardtail - a Norco Torrent A1 similar to this - other than it not being steel. Although if I'm being totally honest, the 425mm chainstays coupled with a 510m reach didn't feel quite right to me. The BFe's 444mm chainstays and 507mm reach should feel more 'balanced' and are more similar to my FSers. Frame itself is 400g heavier than the Norco. "Value-optimised" build with 150mm Yari from a PSA last year, 1x11 Deore/SLX, 4-pot Deores, Nukeproof stem/bar, 200mm dropper, Pro4s with Nukeproof rims (soon to be DT XM421s when I have the time).
This is my 7th(!) Cotic, my first being a mk2(?) Soul back in 2006.
Chuffed 😎
Nice 😎 Can't beat a steel hail for looks and I'm a Cotic fanboi as well, number 6 here. 7 if you include the Mrs' Jeht.
Looks great. There will be teenagers thumping each other whenever you ride by. Enjoy it!
Nice that. Looks great.
That's absolutely stunning !
That's lovely. It looks significantly 'real'.
🙂👌
Lovely looking bike
Well nice 👍
I’ve had four Cotics, nearly bought one of these also. Lovely looking frame/colour.
Looks a hoot.
Incidentally I’ve just bought a hardtail with short chainstays and long reach. Finding it interesting!
Thanks all. Nothing looks better than a no-fuss, straight-tubed steel frame IMO.

I don't seem to be able to stay away: two 26" Souls, a 26" BFe, three Roadrats and now this. Almost added a FlareMAX too. Still might some day!

In my head a more balanced front/rear makes sense but am I sensitive enough to appreciate it fully? Probably not!
I have same frame in that lovely yellow, but in a medium with a Pike Select set at 150mm and a Deore 11spd build with some old 30mm LB/Pro4 wheels.
Soooo stable on slow speed technical stuff and climbing and hilarious downhill. Have to really put the effort in on anything remotely flat though, but that's coming from a 22lb ti singlespeed, so not surprising!
Really nice build and frame 👍
Let us know if the steel is real or just a placebo 😀

XL frame here and pleasantly non gate-link appearance. I imagine it suits a Pike better than a Yari at 150mm - I might end up with one if I bump the Yari onto Mrs a11y's bike.

Didn't realise you could upload images now without 3rd party hosting.
Edit: 🤷
Ace. Looks great.
I've got the gunmetal/orange version that came out at the same time as the yellow one. I uhm'ed and ahh'd for ages over the color as I have a yellow 26er Soul, but ultimately decided what I really wanted was the paintjob of one of the zingy yellow Solarises of around 2017 or so. So in the end I went with the gunmetal to avoid any yellow-related remorse down the line 😀
Mine has just gotten a -2degree headset which I can highly recommend. Moar slack is almost always good, but I found the marginally steeper seat angle surprisingly noticeable too, in a good way.
