Boardman URB 8.9.
My old commuter was fine, but I got fed up with the chain maintenance even though I was using Plutoline (cue tj telling me I was doing something wrong 😂) We’ve got a Tern GSD with belt drive which has been great and this came up at a cracking price. 8spd Alfine with gates belt. Finished with fend off guards (way nicer than the old sks) and Tortec rack.
1st ride in this morning and it’s nice. Smooth, comfortable and quiet.

The old Whyte went to a charity nearby, it’s still perfectly serviceable, so will hopefully allow someone some cheap transport

That's a lovely bike Only thing I'd change is move a light to the rear rack. Now off to look at one myself!

Very nice that.
Liking the rollers you've built into your block paving 👍

@t3apot, not entirely sure what happened about the multiple photos, hence the edit!

Very nice. I've got a Trek District commuter with that drive train on it, it's a marvelous solution for a utility bike.

I looked at the Trek District and the Canyon Commuter, but the price of this was hard to resist.

I've been keeping an eye out for a second hand URB 8.9 too. Currently commute on a genesis day one single speed which is good but a struggle on tough weather days or when I'm feeling a bit ropey. Would like to maintain the low maintenance aspect but gain back some gears.

I don't think I'd have been able to justify to myself the cost at full price, but Bike to Work scheme softened the blow. And yeah, a Bike to Work Bike that's actually used for commuting! Novel concept... 😁

Yeah, I'm in the same situation, I don't need a fourth bike, but I have to go into town once a week and would really like to cycle from the station to the office. Full-size bikes are no allowed on the train during commuter times, so.... Folder then.

Very nice! Good on you for donating the old one, too, it looks brand new!

I realise that its a fortunate position to be able to donate the bike. It was 5yrs old and a couple of thousand miles!

Less than ideal today, the pannier rack failed! Only its third commute (a massive 2miles each way!) and the rack has vibrated itself lose. Fortunately I was following a broken car at the time which kept the speed down, otherwise it would have been at nearly 30mph! It’s gone back together ok, so I’ll be keeping an eye on the bolts. It’s put a small hole in the pannier bag too.

ive got some higher ride bars for it, I don’t understand the design of low bars on urban bikes. It came with flat which I swapped for an old riser, but I’ve managed to get something higher on a Black Friday deal.

Nice.

I like how Boardman do their bikes generally, but I didn't realise they'd been so progressive/niche with their commuting stuff.

I was hovering over one of those Boardmans a few weeks ago and about to hit the order button, then decided I needed another mountain bike instead so orders a Trek Fuel on C2W.

Still tempted to get one but I think Mrs S would raise a knowing eyebrow if I got two new bikes in quick succession.

No nylock nuts on the rack? I’d retrofit if you can.

A lovely bike, now invest in some threadlock to keep all the nuts and bolts in place!

I've managed to fix it, I think they came with threadlock on the bolts, but will check

I thread locked my frame mounts after one vibrated loose damaging the thread in the frame drop out. Tapped it a size larger (both sides) and thread locked the new bolts in.
