Epic!

Do you use a telehandler to put it on the roof?!!

I've got a roof rack for our kiddy back tandem.

I've not quite plucked up the courage to try lifting it on.

Someone on your tandem team must be pretty mighty to get an e tandem on a roof 💪

Tandem isn't that heavy, especially with the battery removed. Need to look at the rack spacing though, the cross tubes on the e tandem are thicker than the unpowered tandems so they don't fit in the jaws. Had to do some juggling to get it safe

It helps that i use a pendle rack: fit one upright, lift tandem on (use a bungee cord to stop the front wheel flapping around) , use a strap of some kind to hold the tandem against the upright, then add the second upright on the other side of the bike

Looks great - we have a couple with an electric tandem come on our Monday night health rides. They are in their 80s and are with us all year round.

Towbar rack would be much easier, less height to lift it.

We are selling our other Orbit tandem now. Not sure if we’re allowed stealth advertisements. Keeping one (we have now got three - eeek). N plus one tandems is not good in a small garage space.
Tandems are great fun. If you’ve never tried one, have a go. Although it’s weird as a cycling stoker not being able to ‘control’ the bike 😀.

Tandem is too wide to go on a towbar rack, it would stick out way past the wing mirrors, even. Parkers lists our BMW 3 series at 2031mm max width, the tandem clocks in at 2480

We used to transport our tandem on a rear rack.

Just removed both wheels and It was around the same width as a solo bike with wheels fitted.

Hmmm. Can't see how this'll be any better. It's only got a motor for the driver!

Sorry missed a 🤪 off to make it clear I was joking. You'd need some hellish long extensions for the wheel holders!

How much does that electric beast weigh?

Our "take the numbers with a pinch of salt" scales make my Bolt ~15Kg, which is only ~2.5Kg heavier than my Marasa, but the rear hub motor makes it feel more than that when carrying up the stairs.

In the tandem club we ride with only 2 of the tandems, including ours, are still analogue 🤷‍♂️ though typically we only ride 30-40 miles.

It is noticeable that the number of tandomers in the UK is reducing steadily, the thought in the club is that battery bikes are removing the need for tandems.

Maybe what you need is a ‘Sliding Hook Storage System’ in your garage 😉

Edit:

only 3 of

Yep, the idea of staying together was resolved when mrs BF got a a Focus ebike and so we sold the tandem.

How much does that electric beast weigh

Official website says 28kg all-in, that feels about right. I’d estimated 25kg based on lifting it around
