I have a 12speed X01 crank that's marked BB30/PF30. My frame needs a 73mm threaded BB. I bought this https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/nukeproof-horizon-threaded-30mm-bottom-bracket/rp-prod187148

But it is just a tad to narrow a diameter. I assumed BB30 meant 30mm?

I went to a LBS but they said if a crank is stamped pf30 it means it won't fit a threaded shell. Is this right, the lad who said it wasn't convincing me he was an expert but I'm 100% not either I assumed the frame determined if I needed a threaded or press fit bb and the crank would fit either if the diameter was correct.

Have a look at Chris King. You buy a basic threaded set of bearings and then buy top hat spacers to match your cranks. PF30 would need a threadfit 30 bb I would imagine.

are you sure it's a 30mm, and not a 29mm DUB that they've sent you?

Too narrow as in the axle won’t fit through the bb? They haven’t accidentally sent you a DUB bb (29mm) have they?

Edit- beaten to it

BSA30 BB is what you need. As above, yours is likely a DUB one, and the lad in the shop is a doughnut.

As above, lad in the shop is wrong. When you say a smidge too narrow, sometimes cranks need to be lined up bang on and I've been known to give them a light tap to pursuade them through the BB.
Unless they've sent you a Dub BB in which case don't try to hammer them in!!

Its not a Dub bb. The frame currently has a dub bb and cranks but it's LX I want to swap out the crankset to use the X01 one but it's bb30 so I assumed I just need a different bb but there is no way that the crank will fit. They are just a fraction of a mm to big.

Good excuse to send back the Nukeproof horizon one and buy a Hope 30mm BB. I have a SRAM XX1 BB30/PF30 crankset in a Hope BB that's been trouble free for years.
