Just entered the Naughty Northumbrian, anyone had any previous experience of this event or are going this year?

Seems like a well organised event and the trails get compared to the Golfie by the organisers, so im expecting some rooty steep carnage.. wooo!

We tried the first one but foolishly I entered us both in the full jobbie rather than the mini one. I/we found it hard in practice and didn't start the race on the Sunday (as did loads of others) which turned out to be a bit of a positive cos it pissed it down on Sunday... The organisation of it seemed good though and the festival atmos was cool. I'd like to think I'd have another go at it at some point because I like the idea of it- being away over night, two day stage racing etc... but to be honest I can't be arsed and prefer the comfort of my own bed at night and am not a huge fan of other people's kids so probably won't 😆 #rocknroll #hardcore #miseryarse

I'm in as is my mate Dave. Neither done it before but we've both have had two cracks at Ard Rock - where it's fair to say that I didn't set the world on fire. Vids look steep, muddy and rooty, with lots of high consequence trees in the vicinity. Hoping that we'll have another dry summer. in which case it looks like a cracker. In the wet I suspect that it'll be torrid.

Looks like a good event though, and with Ard Moors selling out in under a minute I'm just glad to have got onto it.

Whereabouts are you based OP?

would of liked to have done it but as i'll already be having the 3 weekends before it away racing thought i better give it a miss. might haved led to a divorce.

does look a good event though, just the dates don't work well. not much in july, then loads in august.

Same as Bigfoot for me, bit too close to Ard Rock. Did this event used to be in September?

Doing this instead of ard rock, having to organise a bit as six and a half hour drive each way doesn't really work. May do Scotland visit and work this into it. Guess I could do Golspie to get my eye in.

not sure about it being in september but that wouldn't be any better for me, not sure why july is looking like a really quiet month for events then loads in the next couple of months.

i've got ard rock, pmba and king & queen, all nights away taking up first 3 weekends in august and so far ard moors and pmba in september also both nights away.

I'm from Fife just outside Edinburgh. I done the ard rock a couple of years ago and was meant to be doing it again this year but unfortunately couldn't make it so NN sounds perfect!

Just wanting these horrible winter nights to stop so I can get out on the bike more often again.

I entered the first year, it was great but hard. The tracks were described as "golfie like", perhaps naively I was thinking of runs like community service and flat white, but it was much steeper than that.

I think last year they toned it down a fraction, although to be honest in the dry it would have been great.

I do fancy giving it another go at some point, but I'll be practicing on much more technical stuff beforehand.

how's it compare to some of the steeper golfie stuff? my only experience of the golfie is the tweedlove events this year.

its sounding more like it is better riding than ard rock(which is still good but not exactly technical or hard in any way) especially if its wet.

I'm in, I'll be the idiot on the Trailstar. Never done it, never heard of it until a few months ago but saw it was coming up and thought why not. Can't be any worse than the crap conditions I rode doing SDA's on a hardtail.

I reckon if you ride the steeper golfie stuff you will be fine. I'm not sure how different the tracks were that they used last year. In fact to be honest, the main issue in the first year was that a couple of the steepest tracks were fresh cut, which meant in the wet they were very slippy. The other steep (but we'll established track) was not too bad.

Oh, and check out videos of stage 5 in the wet; off camber grass made for some comical crashes!

I seen some videos of that stage 5 on youtube haha it was hilarious! Guess ill just need to head to Golfie and hit the harder of the trails they have, most challenging trail ive done at Golfie is boner. The rest of the ones ive done werent that bad but i dont think ive hit the harder ones yet!

You'll be fine on a hardtail, the year we did it I had a too-big-for-me medium Rocket and was wishing I was on my small BFe instead all the way round. Some of the steeper stuff I chickened out on I think I'd maybe have been able to ride if I'd been on a bike I was comfy on... 😆

I'm debating whether to go for this or for Vallejuah as a weekender next year. Has anyone done both and can comment on how they compare?

ive not done this before but i done the vallelujah last year and the trails they used weren't very challenging to be honest, but i have ridden the ones they used around glentress numerous times.

Entered both, I didn't race this year as I was just back riding after a broken ankle and couldn't face it 2 days in a row. The stages are a mix of steep rooty rocky off camber stuff in the trees and flat out open moorland ( stage 5 which was dropped for the race due to weather forecast was over 3.5km last year), only ridden the golfie once but the wooded stages are pretty similar, not quite waterworld steep but pretty close in places. Most people I spoke to said it was harder and better than they expected, race day was very wet 1st year and as said above the fresh cut track was pretty tough but great fun. The only negative thing personally (due to my lack of fitness more than anything else) last year was the overall route being almost 25 miles with under 4 of actual racing, the transition from stg4 to 5 was a killer. Already in for next year

not certain cos i haven;t done it but most events like this will put chicken lines around things that can't be rolled.

Stage 2 (first year they ran it) was steep and was technically rollable, but it was still pretty bloody steep.
