Following on the back of this thread some years ago, which OS map is the best to go for if you're looking to do a bit of riding out the door from the vicinity of Irongray? Apple maps shows a certain amount if emptiness to the west but no help looking for RoWs.

Go to https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/ in the "How can we help?" section, select "find a map" then on the next page enter Irongray and you'll be sorted. 😀

If you just want to have a look round then http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?X=290880&Y=578950&A=Y&Z=120

In the intuitive world of the touchscreen, streetmap seems immensely clunky to navigate. I'd forgotten it exists! Ta though.

Given that on a mouse driven system you drag the map around you'd think it would be the same on a tablet - probably haven't updated the javascript code to accept the right inputs.

OS79 Nithsdale.
Look for the tracks around Queensberry, Durisdeer, Annandale Way, Southern Upland Way.
Long forest ride can be linked to some if above and a hike onto Queensberry

Some estate tracks are shown as dead ends but do actually meet up on the hill. Google earth is good for scouting where tracks go.

Try this; http://maps.the-hug.net

Drum ride but better from Durisdeer imo or Sanquhar

Dalbeattie area and Moffat areas are off 79( need to look )

Just re-read your op. Doubt you will find much in the way of RoW/bridle ways as per down South. You may find some farm track or walks around the Glenkiln area. Otherwise it's a trek over to either Mabie, New Abbey area for a play on the "natural" trails if you can find them. A trip up to the monument from New Abbey or a pedal along the coastal path from Sandyhills to Kipford/Dalbeattie.
A trip into town and along the cycle path to Heathhall forest for a play on the tracks in there, all flat, some man made and some natural 😀
There was some trails in the woods above Terregles but most have now gone I believe since harvesting took place.
If you have lights there are groups who ride on a Tues from Ae cafe, Tues & Thurs @ Mabie and there is a Wed group who are mainly from the CD area and ride at various venues(most on FB)

Timings of rides are going to be carefully managed. Usual fine line treading of trying to go riding whilst on family holidays!
