Time to replace the ageing drivetrain on my Singlespeed.
I prefer to run a 3/32" set-up (rather than yer 1/8") with an 8-speed chain and this has served me well over the years. However, unramped, SS chainrings seem hard to come by these days (velosolo and planet-x out of stock). I don't want a stainless one, just an Alu, 104BCD, 32t chainring. In black preferably. Thorn do one, but I think it's pig-ugly.
However (again) these new-fangled 'Narrow/Wide' chainrings are two-a-penny.
My question to you is: If I were to buy a (say) Hope 32t 'retainer' chainring, will it work OK with an 8-speed, 3/32" chain on a Singlespeed?
TIA.
Yes, so long as you don't have a half link.
I got a nice stainless from Bikepunx if you ever change your mind.
just run a PC1 cheap as chips and IME virtual indestructible.
Yeah works fine
I run N/W on my SS. Superstar oval. One Up Switch oval and cheap ebay 104bcd round and oval all have worked fine.
I actually have a narrow-wide sprocket, that I'm about to put to use with a narrow-wide eccentric chainring for extra niche points.
Another vote for Bikepunkx (previously known as Projection Components)
I have one of their 1/8 th" chain rings and they are fine
You can have my black, 104bcd, Velosolo 32t for the cost of postage if you like?
Yes, so long as you don’t have a half link
That's easily fixed by going to a 31 or 33t narrow wide.
Yup, works fine. Just make sure they're 7075 and heat treated, it's harder (thus harder to machine, thus expensive) and lasts a lot longer.
Here is a SS ring that is in stock. I've got 2 chainrings from Rideworks and there great.
