I either run 2.35" or 2.1" High Rollers. The wide tyres are great, but I love the speed of the narrow tyres on my local trails.
However, the narrow tyres are as sketchy as hell on rocks and roots. Maybe it's just the lack of volume and the resulting higher pressures, or maybe it's the compound of the tyres; super tacky vs. 70A.
So, if I can get some similar 2.1" but soft coumpound tyres, it may be the solution. Or at worst I'll know it's all down to volume.
Let me know your thoughts?
Weird. I find larger volume, lower pressure tyres faster everywhere except on roads. Soft compound tyres I found draggy as hell but I'll make an exception for the black-chilli Contis which seem to be "magical". Got no data to back that up though. Maybe 2.2" black chill Mountain King IIs would suit you?

Or Speed Kings. It's a good shout, Conti's come up quite narrow.
