I'm after replacing my aging RaceFace forged triple crankset with a 1x10 setup and wanted to bring the Q factor down too as if I can.
I know the Sram XX1 crankset offers a nicer Q factor but it's pricey.
Any other recommendations?
Ps, frame is 2004 Enduro with (I believe) a standard 68mm English Bb.
Cheers.
Have you even checked the narrow SRAM one will fit your frame? Plenty of FS frames don't have enough clearance.
XX1 isn't that expensive, you could perhaps use CX1 with a spiderless ring which is very slightly cheaper, but probably introduce other issues.
Shorter pedal axles?
No not checked yet. Just wondered what set ups might be suitable.
Must admit the XX1 is a nice looking crank. A friend races XC and swears by it but he's in much more up to date frames.
Nothing to do with that, the narrow q-factor is just very narrow! Usually ok on hardtails, but plenty of FS bikes have clearance issues. I'd stick to the wider one for guaranteed compatibility.
Why do you want to narrow your q-factor anyway?
It's not a given that narrower = better.
I know the Sram XX1 crankset offers a nicer Q factor but it's pricey.
I'm going to be selling a couple of XX1 cranksets within the next week or so, both 175mm length and the wider q-factor. One's a GXP fitment and the other is a BB30.
Give me shout if you're interested.
I spent about 6 hours a week training on my road bike/TT bike (on the turbo) and like it narrow.
My previous MTB, a Zaskar pro, had an XT triple on ot and it was very wide. I was hoping that going to a single ring setup would bring this down closer to what I'm used too.
You're right though, I may well be tied to using what fits as it is meaty around the rear sus linkage.
Checked the Enduro this morning, the chain stays sit about 135mm at their widest point. Should be ok for the Sram cranks.
