Thought about heading up there this week and doing the Syfydrin Trail while I'm staying with family near Carmarthen.
The only days I can do are tomorrow or Thursday, both of which are looking warm but showery. Is it going to be worth the 1.5 hour drive or better to save it for another time?
I don't mind a bit of weather but it looks pretty exposed up there.
Cheers
Have you considered Brechfa as it's on your doorstep?
Did Summit on three different days a week ago. One of those we nearly turned back at the start due to driving rain and limited visibility but persevered and still enjoyed it.
Cleared by the end of the ride
The other 2 days were beautiful
Brechfa was closed when we were there
Used to drive 2 1/2hrs to nant quite often, still stop there on our way up to coedy, betws etc as there's some really nice riding to be had.I'd probably avoid the Syfydrin if the weather was bad, as it is a bit exposed in places, but well worth the drive for me. Don't know if anybody else has found the same, but I usually make my clothing selection in the car park, and end up overdressed, as it seems about 10 degrees colder there than everywhere else on the trails.
Usually take a trip to Brechfa while I'm here but definitely all shut at the moment.
Might see what the weathers like in the morning and go from there.
I drive about 3hrs there once or twice a year, it’s a great venue.
I’ve been told/warned Syfydrin isn’t really worth the extra hour over summit. We tend to ride Summit and then have a lap of the blue.
It’s fairly unique compared to the other centres in Wales, whilst they’ve gotten wider, smoother and more bike park like, NYA still have some great narrow single track that’s got a lot of slate on it so it a little looser (like Brechfa in parts) there are some faster bits to it, but there’s not much that can match ‘Mark of Zorro’ it’s so tight it’s like a core workout!
