Staying in mid Wales next week an hour away from either. Never ridden cyb. Have ridden nya before.. But is it worth going to cyb? Also.. Are there any short cuts or fire roads to re loop the best sections at nya?

CyB is definitely worth a visit. In contrast to NyA it's more epic and rocky, with more regular ups and downs, but still has comparable flow to NyA. It also has various shortcut options, if you are into that sort of thing, which NyA doesn't. Take your pick!

CyB will reward if you are looking for a bigger day out, particularly The Beast or sections of. NyA I usually use just for a quick fun blast, particularly if I'm short on time.

Also see: Climaxx in Mach, for a totally different type of trail experience.. 🙂

the best bits of NYA are all on the shorter two loops (Pendam and Summit). Mark of Zorro on Summit is brilliant, but has a 2 mile fire road climb after it, Pendam misses out both.

If you've never ridden CYB, then there's your answer. Beast @ CYB is a fave of mine, and last week we were shown the shortcut that misses out the big fire road climb+descent loop that adds very little other than mileage and vert, which made us very happy*

*on the B*st*rd steep road section passed the halfway cafe that is only open weekends at most, rather than turning right onto a fire road next to a yellow road-salt bin, keep climbing on the road until you see a gated fire road entrance right in front of you (the tarmac road bends to the left at this point). Go round the gate up the fireroad and Gomez singletrack is on your left.

As above, really. Both have their good points, but CYB is probably the better choice for a "big" day out. Oddly, I rather like that climb after the cafe on the Beast, and given my normal disdain for climbing, that's high praise indeed!

Mach is also well worth a look, but I seem to remember reading it was part closed, or with diversions. The last descent is brilliant, and easy to get back to by riding up the fireroad again and heading for the mast.

Ive ridden ClimachX a few times.. really enjoyed the middle sections of the last descent but the big berms were pretty wrecked when i was there which kind of took the fun out of railing them. Ive got a weeks holiday near welshpool in 2 weeks time so Ive got a full days riding for my 40th birthday which i might go play on the Antur stiniog uplift. Thanks for the suggestions ,, Just looking at going somewhere else too and weighing up the options.

Rocks. Lots and lots of rocks! Was there a couple of weeks ago and LOVED it. It's very much a DH centre, rather than a trail centre, though. Really challenging riding, and a brilliantly run centre. The breakfast baps are EPIC!

Scrubadub was my pick of the trails there.

I rather like that climb after the cafe on the Beast,

its the fire road descent after the fire road climb that really grinds my teeth, especially as it's always into a headwind so you have to pedal into it to go downhill.

Don't mind it actually, but last week we were trying to save our legs for more days of riding and I'd never seen the shortcut before so it was very welcome.

I was on standard black chilli spec Contis, 2.4" front and 2.2" back and I didn't die. Much.

Unless you're a superhero, all bar a few bits of the black is rideable on a 6" travel trail bike. Some of the black run is loony tunes bonkers, proper DH territory. Oddly, in some ways it's less punishing than some of the stuff at CYB, BPW or Snowdon, in that (again) unless you're a superhero, you'll be at lower speeds, so less tyre smashing potential.

I loved it. Took me out of my comfort zone and pushed my riding on so much. Really helped for doing Snowdon the day after, but the Ranger path was still a big challenge.

I'm going to CYB first weekend of October currently only 1 bike which is a Whyte 19 am I going to die? Have my eyes on something new and more capable for this type of thing but funds are distinctly lacking at the moment!!

Ridden at Afan on the Whyte and lived but the technical stuff was a challenge and I was considerable slower than most of our group plus felt like I'd been beaten up at the end of the day!

I tend to go to mid Wales at least once a year with mates and we spend a day at CyB and day at Nant. Both are great IMO and I'd happily spend a day at either.
If you've never ridden CyB I'd go there then you can find out for yourself.

Between us there are 26, 27.5 and 29ers FS and HT.
No-one has died yet. Everyone has enjoyed it (apart from one bloke on a Halfords 40lb special who got round the Beast on it - just)
