Any thoughts on current conditions? Been a while since I've ridden it and considering this ride for Friday.
I'm guessing it'll be pretty wet coming down into Kentmere?
Other than that any issues?
Or any other recommendations in South Lakes for a not too sloppy boggy ride?
Thank you!

Not to bad at the momment But check weather for the next 48 hours my guessing it will be wetter sooner than later
Thank you.
Weather actually looks ok going into the weekend.

Agreed
I formed an opinion a couple of years back that people who loved NB did it in the dry, and most of the people that disliked it did indeed moan about the huge long sloppy lead out.... because they did it when it was too wet. Like Cut Gate, it's loads better proper dry (CLOPTMTCGHBRAIOA-B)

Only that of you want an awsumer day forget Gatesgath. Approach NB either from the hill to the east ( Harter?) or from the west from near High Street and the hills between high Street and the summit of garburn.
I described that shit. Park in Troutbeck valley, up garburn west to the top of the pass, hang a left along various ridgey hills till you reach almost high Street then drop east to NB 'summit'
Then when you get to Kentmere head over Garburn east then down west to your car.
Caveat volvo. On both those routes the NB section is by far the easiest.
Pretty sure the Harter route is weatherproof. Will try to dig out some photos of the Garburnish route to see...
Eh, the bottom of Nan Bield can be a bit weather dependant, but it drains well.
As per @thegeneralist, go over harter fell, don't drop into the valley (unless riding NB S-N).
Just mapped out the route above from the Generealist, nice one. Always had an eye on the ridgy hills between garburn and high street, may very well do that.
Random note, I know that you can skip accross harter fell to cut out the drop into Haweswater. BUT i kind of like the hike a bike up to Nan Bield, makes it feel like a proper ride.
Anyone come down the Old Corpse Road Bridleway?

Oh, it's not the HaB up that people want to avoid, it's the nightmare rubble loose descent down Gatesgarth to haweswater 😉
Might as well stay in the Peak District 😈
Like Cut Gate, it’s loads better proper dry
I think, like many "classic" routes of old, on a unsuitable bike, if feels like a ride into the unknown, on a modern bike (i.e. one that works as intended) it's a (often) windy damp squib.
Will try to dig out some photos of the Garburnish route to see…
Gnommmmm. Rocky.
And lovely....

Great photos the generalist, thanks for sharing!
Which are those bits on the route - can you recall?
Still looking for routes for a soggy wet Lakes weekend, will prabably do your one though.
Cheers,

Looking at the map, I think they're ( certainly the 2nd one) coming down the north side of Bell towards Froswick
Still looking for routes for a soggy wet Lakes weekend,
Wet you say....
Trails in grisedale are good ( NOT the TC ones, the bridleways).
This was taken the day before the told us to evacuate our accommodation as Conniston water was about to cover the main road ( Funnily enough the only time I've used my kayaking drycag in years !)

Or loughrg terrace. At least it'll be quiet.
What I love about the Lakes is that even if it's piss soaking wet, it's clean piss soaking wet. Water is still lovely and clear, unlike the £47.32 grinding paste of Doom that you get in the Peak when it's wet.
I assume you know the good legal stuff in grisedale, but if not then this is a good starting point:

@op
Thinking about it I actually think the best bit of the nan Bield descent IS the illegal footpath over the tops from harter fell to the pass itself.
