So last night karma took some points back for something. The intention was to cycle to a work friends house 12 miles away where myself & 6 other lads would play poker, few drinks n' a pizza. I got the sign off from my awesome wife and I had given my mate a large bottle of Leffe & 2 cans of Stella to take to his house for my supping when I got there.
It had been raining all afternoon so I waterproofed up & set off. The rain stopped 10 minutes in but then coming down a bit of pavement I wasn't really paying attention and a van went through a puddle near me & I got a soaking. It wasn't a complete drenching but it was enough for me to imagine the van driver going 'YEAH I completely ****ing soaked that cyclist.'
Then a little way on my waterproof trousers caught in the chain ring n chain and ripped the seam right up to the knee. I tried to shove the ends in my shoes but it was no good. In anger I ripped them off, put them in a bin and cycled on.
Then about 5 miles on the spare rear light mount somehow got twisted around and ripped the mech off, shearing the mech hanger in two!! I've had this happen before and fortunately I carry a spare hanger. So whipped the bike onto it's back, got the wheel out & got to work. Come to fitting the new hanger & I'm screwing in one of the little screws and it went *ping* and flew off into the undergrowth. I spent 20 odd minutes scrabbling through rotten leaves, mud, grass & god knows what else to no avail I could not find the little screw. I texted my mate that I wouldn't be coming and to start without me.
I fitted the mech back on with just one screw, leaving one hole empty and a slightly wobbly mech. Checking the shifting & something was amiss, it wasn't shifting right & wasn't returning. Upon examination I realised that part of the cage structure was missing and it was jaggy white where a piece had broken off.... Bugger! Put it into the highest gear I could coming to the conclusion I could cycle home as long as I didn't try & change. Then it started to rain & my mate texted to say they were tucking into my Leffe :o(
I'd hate to the to think what you did to deserve that much karma. Strangle kittens?
Oh well, one day you'll laugh about it. Maybe not today though...
That's some bad luck there Jekyll but.....
How the fudge does a light mount result in a mech hanger snapping? I just can not picture that one, where the funk was the mount mounted?

I'm continually amazed at the places folk think are sensuble (or even visible) to miunt a light.
I'm not too sure what happened tbh. It was mounted on the frame twixt the saddle & the mech. There was a flooded road so I had to wheel the bike through some tufty grass, so it might have struck some claggy grass, got twisted around, broken off and fallen into the wheel/mech.
Rides like that make the good ones glorious.
Still cant work out how a light mount got anywhere near the mech unless it was mounted really low down or on the chainstay ?

Ah, experience. Life's cruel yet effective ( sometimes) learning process.
Bad luck OP...
