[Closed] My old Meta 5 or a new old EX8?

Back in 2007 I bought a brand new Meta5.
It was OK but I never managed to get a good set-up with the suspension - much of this down to some "school-boy errors" on my part.
I built up a hard-tail & have been much happier on this for the last 3 yrs.
The frame is kicking around in the garage & I am wondering about giving it another go but I also quite fancy a Trek EX8/9.

What are the opinions on these two? And if the Trek, is the newer rear end THAT much better than the older(2007/8) version.
I mostly ride XC with no "air".
