As there aren't that many switchback pics/owners around, thought I might share the build I did today.

Ideally I would want the brake hoses a little shorter, but waiting on the spares, I'll sort it.

Had a ride up and down the local bits for half hour, but will be heading up to the North Lakes and Whinlatter in the next few days to thrash it about though.

Build comes in at 28lbs on the analogue luggage scales (I've never been charged for being over baggaged!)

Really like these. Look like they only do two sizes though, and at 6'2 think the 18 will be too small.

Yours looks purposeful!

I'm 6'2" and doesn't feel small at all, although I have a short reach for my height so can get away with a shorter effective top-tube length.

Nice looking bike.

A little surprised at the weight though. I've seen a PP Shan build up to 28lbs and change with an SLX/Zee, XT, N/W chainring1x10 drivetrain, Reverb and a DPA Pike. Looks like you have the new XTR on there? I'd have thought it would build a little lighter, unless those tyres are crazy heavy!

Still, it must be the business when you point it downwards which is all that matters really 🙂

It could well be lighter, I'll have to give it a proper weigh somewhere

Yes new XTR rear but 2013 shifters and cranks
it's lighter than my FS, so that'll do me to be honest!

jontykint,

That looks industrious & fun mate - can't wait to get my one built up. It's a slow burner with parts being purchased each month as funds allow.

What Travel are you running the Pikes at? I think I might go with Marzocchi 350 NCR's set to 140mm.

Be sure to let us know how it gets on round North Lakes and Whinlatter - particularly interested in how the geometry handles the climbs.

I just built my Green 18" one up, Rode it round Swinley yesterday. Good fun bike although I have a long torso so feel a bit small even with 50mm stem & 770 bars. Am 6ft 1". Great to chuck around though...
mine is approx 29lbs with BOS 140mm 26" forks running 650b wheels, 1x10 setup

^^ niiiice green. almost went for it.

deluded - I'm running 140mm revs, saving up for some Pikes on my FS for next summer

I'm on my way out the door to Grizedale now(ride report later), although after my first gym session for a month and my trainer beasting out the squats and lunges, I dont think I'll be hammering it too much today!

transition1 - cheers. Indeed, very nice. I also fretted between green and raw - I see they've a nice red out as well now.

Good builds on both.

Encouraged by the early handling reports.

How are you chaps getting on with the Switchbacks?

I'm just about yo buy one in 18 to replace a Slackline that's too small to be used for proper trail rides (but is great for mucking about on). I'm slightly concerned that being so slack, it might be too much for general riding.

I use mine for general riding, it seems to work just fine

Depends what fork you put on and what you mean by "General Riding". If you mean long proper rides rather than messing about locally then it comes down to personal preference. Mine sits at 65 degrees with an old 150mm revelation on and I find that spot on for general riding. The seat angle is bob on and the riding position on the Slackline seems to put you in the ideal sweet spot for climbing even with a slack head angle. Then again I don't understand the whole slack head angles are no good for climbing or all day rides, I find the opposite is true.

Good to hear. Once the guys at Stanton are back, I'll get one ordered.

Most of what I've read has been really positive, there were just one or two comments about the bike not being as much fun to ride as the Slackline. I really like my Slackline but I think it climbs like a pig but that may be because it's too small.

I'll most likely be running 34 Talas 160/130 as I can get a set cheap.

Sorry, I see you are actually asking about the Switchback not the Slackline! Anyway I can't see there being much difference from the Slackline, aren't the angles just about the same on the Switchback?

If you are worried about the HA, why not fit travel adjustable forks, that will give you the best of all worlds.

I'm just going to stop overthinking it and order one (assuming there are some large ones left). I didn't think much about swapping my BFe for a Slackline, so not sure why this one is causing me to stop. Will be interesting to see if the 650b thing brings any noticeable benefits.

Hello there Transition 1.... Very nice built, I just finished building my switchback at weekend same colour!

What rear disc rotor size are you running? I have fitted 160mm disc with 160mm rear brake adapter and SLX brake, but caliper isn’t fully down on the disc ? about 5mm gap between disc and caliper, therefore brake pads are not fully overlapping the disc.

Cheers
Niall

Hi Niall
I was running 180 front & rear with SLX brakes
have just swapped the rear to160mm but not looked closely at the gap or ridden it since the change.
The DH bike had 203 front & rear now got the 180 that came off the Switchback on the rear.
had a 160 lying around, which is now on the switchback. Rode it at BPW other day was great fun although feet did bounce around through rock gardens on rim dinger with flats....

Planning to hit BPW with the switchback, might bring two bikes just in case I get to beat up from the switchback ha…! Hopeful I will have bike up and running this for a night ride! Happy riding mate ?

I have had a ti one for about 2 months great bike I just can't decide on wheels. I have some superstar jobs I got on offer which are fine but I fancy something wide. I am worried about tire clearance, got a 2.3 purgatory on the back but know the wide rims flatten them out more. It's my only bike at the minute and it has done all the peaks stuff, Wales and Marin enduro it handles it all fine and is great fun to ride just different to a full sus.

Your tyre clearance should be quite similar to mine I think. Which hasn't been a problem so far even wig some mucky lakes rides
I'm running Spank SubRosa30 with 2.4 High Roller 2
