although i've been mainly concetrating on the 5-spot build shown in my other thread (and a Trek Lush build for the wife and a Giant Defy build for one of my girly mates), I've also been giving my old Cannondale a mid-life refit.

the idea is to create a simple, cheap, reliable and light hardtail which i can use to cycle to and from work and use for child-transporting purposes once the son-&-heir is old enough to be towed/carried.

the approximate spec is as follows:-

2002 cannondale caad5 frame (us-built and about as light as they got in alloy frames) - remetalled dropouts and powdercoat in apple green with sparkle lacquer.
Exotic 29er carbon rigid forks (29er to compensate for the headshock geometry of the frame)
Exotic 90mm stem
Raceface Deus low-rise bars
Spank lockon grips
27.2mm carbon seatpost (takes the zing out of the trail)
WTB Silverado anniversary saddle (VERY comfy and light)
Blackspire Badger freeride cranks with Blackspire Veloce Uno 34t chainring
2012 SLX medium cage rear mech with KCNC jockeywheels
SRAM 11-34 cassette and chain
Shimano XT rear shifter
Shimano 530 road SPD's (platform one side, spd the other)
Shimano hydraulic discs (the cheapy ones from CRC!)
Alligator cutter 160mm rotors in gash gold
Various gash gold bits to make the bike look naff
Superstar gash gold headset with reducer cups to 1 1/8th
Mavic XC717 rims with Shimano XT hubs
Michelin Wild Racer'R Advanced tyres (fantastic bits of rubber and seriously cheap to buy in the UK).

i quite like it! what say the STW crowd?

I like that, nice re-use of an old frame without trying to be retro, looks fast.

I agree, looks great, considering a set of the 29er exotic forks myself (also for a green bike). Top job.

I love Cannondale frames of old (have an F800 at present with all '09 components and it's stupid light) and yours is lovely, I like the gold bling but..

..Sparkle Lacquer? MTFU! 😀
