Came off my singlespeed commuter on Thursday night, combination of wet roads, skinny tyres and brand new (wet) tram tracks had me off and over the bars. No other vehicle involved although i was a bit miffed no drivers bothered to give me enough room to get up!
Think is, i think i may have cracked a couple of ribs. Just been out around Calderdale on the mtb (trails are lovely right now) and I'm hurting a wee bit. Just to the front of my right arm pit, very tender and hurts when i breathe sharply - like honking up a climb strangely enough.
Worth going to the walk in centre? Given that it is a Bank Holiday..

could do, but when i did similar my attitude was, what can the doctors actually do? nothing, so why bother. Just monitor and listen to your body as far as discomfort/pain goes.

Came off last weekend and had sore ribs since. Resting up till it hurts less, don't see any point in aggravating it.

Thought about going to the doctor too, but what they gonna say, apart from 'you've bruised them a bit, just rest for a while'.

In retrospect honking around Calderdale today probably doesn't come under the heading of 'rest' 😆 will spend the evening in the garden with a bottle of painkiller then!

If you fell off in Rochdale, you've probably got the Black Plague and leprosy and some dreadful fungal infection. Although if you grew up there, you're probably immune....

Cracked ribs they won't/can't do anything.
Just rest up, listen to your body. If something hurts either stop doing it or take more painkillers. 😉

Personally I'd get checked over at the walk-in - they can confirm what the injury is, and that there's nothing more serious which you might miss until it gets more serious

Had broken ribs a few months ago. From impact it took a few days to start hurting properly (maybe i knocked it again and finished off the job?). Had trouble sleeping, getting up from horizontal position, could only sit in certain positions, couldn't walk around for too long, couldn't ride/run/gym. Was a horrible 5 weeks.

If it's not that bad you've probably not broken them, just bruised. Like someone else said, a Doctor can't do anything for you anyway. Pain killers if needed, take it easy for a few weeks.

I doubt you've cracked any ribs if you can go MTBing three days later. I certainly couldn't have done that when I broke some of mine.

+1, that's what the service is there for.

Might take a couple of days, but you will definitely know they are broke when you sneeze if it hurts so much it's actually interesting.

Probably not broken/cracked if you are still riding. In my experience moving and breathing is difficult with bust ribs.

Best getting checked if you have any concern though, with broken ribs its mainly a listen with a stethoscope the few times I have done it and I believe this is to make sure you haven't damaged a lung or other vital organs, never had them xray'd.

Rest pain killers and hope you get well soon.

I reckon if you're fine riding about Calderdale then they're not cracked. Broken ribs are often very painful indeed.

Bit of bruising or maybe some muscle damage. Dwarf up.

If fluids start coming out of anywhere that normally don't, I'd get down the walk in centre.

Probably just bruising although it only started to hurt yesterday.

My rule is; if my normal painkillers don't stop it from hurting go to the doctors.

You have bruising from the sounds of it (still painful) cracked ribs = not being able to get out of bed for a few days let alone contemplate cycling. Breathing deeply hurts.

Last time I busted my collar bone it was highly likely I also did a few ribs. A&E said we don't even xray for ribs anymore...

Drop in centre would be a wasted evening imo, but if you have nothing better to do take a mag and your tea!

done my ribs a few times once playing rugby, that time 3 ribs broke, the next time showing off to my son on the bike, but that time they were just bruised, theres a big difference in broken ribs to just bruised, broken ribs took 6 weeks to heal, bruised ribs took just over a week, i recomend ibuprofen and paracetamol together, depends how bad the pain is lol

Crikey - all those diseases have more intricate DNA than any Rochdale native so I'm fine in that respect! 😛

My sympathies! I had my first big crash in a long time yesterday.

Kinda went straight on at a 90 left, did a double somersault and slid down a 10+ft rocky drop.

Bruised back/backside/thighs/grazed left hand side of body and had to put steri strips in the back of my right calf where the crank ripped a hole in it.

Bike survived intact!

this was on the first day of the holidays and no more riding!
