Well Not mine but asking for a friend.

I know a young lad (turning 12) who has developed a love for cycling . He is currently bombing round on his big brothers old Dawes thing. I Am told he is around 1.5 metres tall but at 12 wont be expected to remain that height for too long.

Am looking for advice on what might be a good entry level mountain bike and thoughts on frame size. I am suggesting small / extra small adults should be OK ( he is a pretty powerfully built kid) but am just guessing.
We live near the south downs so has some great fun on the doorstep.

Money is tight so we are looking around £350 but I realise anything new at this price will be somewhat compromised .

Had a quick look on ebay and found this (over budget) and wondered if it would be worth getting some more cash together :

any thoughts ?

Specialized Archive gives full specs.

But I'm a bit worried about the seller:
" . . . mountain biking is not for me! Too scary. Been sitting in the shed ever since."

Wouldn't consider a 26er for him? Plenty of those to be had, decent spec, around your budget. Would suit a 12 yo for a few years.

If you can stretch then this looks like a good deal for a new bike

Plenty of second hand cubes on eBay too

Ragley is nice - I’d say look for something local so he can try for size.
Though you do want a bit of growing room.

thanks for the input . Yes i saw that cool looking bike was the other side of the country.

I think the next step is to take said boy to bike shop and see what he fits on ..

if it was me the cube bike slackboy linked to would have been bought on tick already .

DezB I don’t think alcohol is really suitable for a 12 year old. 😉
