Been given a BSO to do up for a Syrian refugee and it's really not bad at all. Some salty corrosion on the mechs, and I ahve no idea what was used for lube because it's turned into this hard crusty black slag all over everything - new chain required.

However the BB bearings are loose and I don't seem to be able to get the cranks off because whilst they are square taper, it doesn't appear to have the threads for the bb puller.

Anyone come across this before?

? crank bolt - if present - must have been threaded into the same thread, surely?

Stripped threads? I tried to get a square taper crank off a mates road bike, and ended up just pulling the threads out of the crank arm since the alloy was old and shit and the cranks had seized to the BB axle.

Ahh. Sounds familiar. Do these in the local bike recycle place. It can be a ball ache but if they have to come off we use a bearing puller then replace with cranks from a donor bike.

Undo bolts and ride for a bit, see if they come loose?
