You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Well, not so much the evening as a few hundred yards of the commute on the bike last night. He could do with shedding a few pounds I reckon, looked a bit "puffy" 🙂
Caught up with him at the top of constitution hill and waited at the Hyde Park island crossing together.
At the next set of lights (NW corner) I pointed out the daft light sequence and the increasing likelihood of me voting* for him if he were somehow to arrange that the lights could be sequenced for bikes wanting to get into or out of the Park without having to do it in two stages or play chicken with the cars as at present. Finger's crossed 🙂
* forgot to point out that Im no longer on the London electoral register 😉
what did he say to that? Can you ask him to set up buttons on traffic lights so cyclists can press them to change the lights when the induction loops don't detect them? I know that's probably not a problem in dirty old London but out in the sticks if you follow the rules you can find yourself sat at light for twenty minutes until a car turns up.
he said that it had been mentioned to him before apparently.
I, and another guy next to me, said that other than doing a two stage crossing using the pelican lights which takes ages, you have to watch the car control lights and leg it as soon as they hit red (but watch out for red light jumping cars) then you can scoot straight across the junction before the next batch of traffic reach you. If you're quick 🙂
So he followed us - nearly got flattened by one car, and just made it to the safety of Hyde Park in time before the next car 🙂
I'm absolutely gob-smacked that he actually rides....I thought that was all hype for the mayoral election. Presumed he had the standard chauffeur-driven Hummer or something. He's gone up in my opinion slightly from zero now....
(Didn't there used to be an underpass there?)
the underpass isnt any use on a bike going in most directions, and even if you used the ramped access points it's a narrow underpass and dangerous.
He has a black helemt with lots of "Oyster" branding all over it. He gets waved at* and waves back to the TfL bus drivers too 🙂
* I think its a wave 🙂
Next time you see him ask him to go back on Have I Got News for You.
Ive followed Jon Snow before - he's a terrible red-light jumper 🙂
Who else has commuted with someone well known?
Tom - I gather he doesnt believe it right to appear on TV again whilst the elected mayor. I can only ask though 🙂
Yep, he really does ride.
