You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
A nuke's just gone off to your right.
shit dude, I can manage a 26er, with saddle (dropper post) and rear wheel fitted, in my matiz with the seats down. I hope you had other reasons to choose that fat biffer of a car than a reluctance to drop the rear seats
😉
I'm 50. I live in a 3 bed semi in suburbia. I am what I drive!
but on a more serious note can you get 3 or more bikes in the boot? (with wheels/saddles off)
2 people and 2 bikes is feasible in most normal cars IME, 3 people (no dropped seats) and their bikes is where it gets tricky.
2 I'd reckon no problem. 3 if you were clever. 6 wheels takes up a lot of room.
D0NK - Memberbut on a more serious note can you get 3 or more bikes in the boot? (with wheels/saddles off)
I don't know how many bikes I can get in my mondeo. Ran out of bikes at 6, that's probably enough though. But if not I can get 4 on the roofrack. And a trailer for the riders I suppose.
3 people and 3 bikes front off in the Maxi Life is a doddle.
3 bikes with all wheels off and you can leave the bench seat in there too giving the full 7 seats for [s]crap[/s] kit.
Took all the seats out in the summers and had 2 bikes, 2 lots of kit, spares, 2 sets of climbing kit (wall and trad), bouldering mat, ropes, double mattress the OH's suitcase and my duffel and she still wanted to fill the free space.
With the twin seat out - the two kids and three bikes go in without removing any wheels with room for kit.
57 plate Seat Alhambra two rear seats removed, still a 5 seater, four bikes in the boot!
I love my "crappy" car!
There should be a statutory thread on here with exactly that sort of information, step by step instructions & photos to prove it - this could even be it 😉
I'll chip in with the fact I can get a medium sized Chameleon wearing 26" x 2.2" shoes in the back of a 2000 VW Beetle without removing the front wheel if you fold the back seats down & rotate the bars upon entry (sorry, no photos)

Funny,I always thought you were older 😛
Full on fatty just casually laying in a berlingo 🙂

We once managed 3 bikes (including one fat) + 3 people + 2 lots of camping gear all inside an Insignia hatchback - but it was under duress & involved some serious amount of dismantling after the fatbike rider confessed that cycling 80 miles home after a 24hr solo race was not going to be an option.
Nice fatty up there ^
I can get a 26" soul, wheels and seatpost on inside my MK2 focus with the back seats down. Generally take front off though as it's no more faff.
I'm looking for a new car, something rugged, reliable, with decent ground clearance, possibly 4wd, and easy to get a bike into, all whilst doing high 30's to the gallon, if petrol. It's not proving easy..........
I worked out last weekend that I can get an XL 650B full sus in the boot of my Volvo V40 (old style estate, not the new hatchback) with both wheels and the bars off (removed stem clamp) and the dropper right down. Necessary for some stealth overnight city centre parking.
I used to get two bikes with both wheels on in my old 240 🙁
Core - fancy a Maxi Life?
Im quite looking forward to seeing how easy it is to get my bike in the back of the newly acquired scenic.
26er
#ubercoolnichefestical
Great idea for a thread Sir.
No pics sadly bu you can get 3 bikes, 2 of which are XL in size, and 2 adults in a Nissan Micra. It's tight but it's possible. Wheels off, stacked up and no space for anything else.

What about the driver? 😉

Pfft, I've had three bikes, three people, and their luggage inside a Jazz…
I raise you a Tandem in a Skoda Fabia.
…and a tandem. (Not at the same time, obvs…)
We managed four people, three week's worth of luggage and a large bike once, too.
I seem to recall we used to cram quite a lot inside a Renault 5, too. Square cars FTW 🙂
I give you a Citroen 2cv take all the seats out except the drivers and slide Tandem in.....wife sat on a stool for 200miles.
That was a long time ago!!!!
I managed to get 2 medium GT I-drives/kit and a weeks camping stuff into the back of a Fiat Siecento once . It was tight and I couldn't see much in the rear view mirror !!
Just the thread I'm looking for - anyone got pictures with 2 bikes upright (assuming minus front wheel ?) in any of these:-
Mazda 5 (11)
X3 (07)
Picasso
would be very much appreciated.
some great flying weapons of injury inside the cars in case of an accident there....
2 people, 4 bikes, 2 spare sets of wheels, complete tool kit, camping kit (including half a kitchen and 2 burner hob + bottle, we knew how to live) and food for a long race weekend in a fiesta 3 door.
The fiesta (much to my horror) had been *pimped*, so the sub and the parcel shelf (inc huge speakers) remained in the car........
I've had a 29er and a 26" in the boot of an Accord Tourer, even had the cover over the bikes- stealthy.
A large 26er slips very comfortably into a mk. 1 MX-5. Sadly, I had to replace the car when I went 650b...
Mk1 Mondeo estate achieved 6 bikes and 5 riders, all inside.
Mk3 Mondeo estate, only 5 bikes and their riders, all inside.
Volvo V50, rubbish.
Octavia estate fits a tandem, lawn mower and some other junk. Not attempted a max load yet.
Core - if you aren't looking for new, I am achieving those requirements with a Mk1 Octavia 1.8t 4x4, admittedly the fuel thing requires some restraint. Farmer friend has just got the newer diesel one, far more economical (but mine cost a lot less).
Jeez, OP has started a thread to show what A bike looks like in their boot. If we all did it, it would be a great resource for when we're looking at a new car.
A pic of your car packed to the gunwales isn't the point of the thread.
I've had 2 people, 2 bikes & 2 lots of camping gear for 4 night in a 10 year old 1.2l Clio from Sheffield to Belfast and back via Anglesea and it was fine.
I dunno what some of you are playing at with your spacious cars.
TBH I could take my bike down to the benchmarking workshop and get pictures of 40 or 50 cars with a bike in the boot. But I'd get sacked. So I won't.
My large Alpine 160 fits into my Toyota GT86 a treat. Wheels have to be removed first though! LOL
An xl trek rumblefish with both wheels still fitted into a Dodge Charger. That car was cavernous.
Also, on two occasions I had 3 mountain bikes, camping gear, armour, luggage and 2 passengers in a 2000 Fiesta. Needed the wheels off. Was bloody uncomfortable!
Anyone tried with a new shape Audi tt? (Flame away)
Has anyone tried a new shape Octavia hatchback, without the seats down? I'm hoping it will manage with the wheels off? (For stealth city bike storage)
Haven't tried a TT but you can get a Boardman FS 26er in an R8
I got three murdered prostitutes, 4 spades, 4 29" XL FS Specialized Cambers Pro Elites, 4xtwo wheeled trailers, a weeks worth of chocolate hobnobs, four tens, 10kg of lye, a full sized canadian 6foot tree cutting chainsaw, 3 members of my bike group, my wife, her 8 inlaws, not including the FIL, our 2 year old daughter, her car seat, her dolly collection, four st. bernards, 3 great danes, four Danish people from the national wrestling team, 8 bags of cement, and a tea cup in a 1991 Fiat Uno
Anyone got a HRV? Interested to see if its any bigger boot wise than my civic.
My Long demo 8 fits in the back of my Mk2 TT with the wheels off and the rear seats down.
Quirrel - I call bollocks on the tea cup!
Our Peugeot Partner van literally swallows bicycles, total number not tested, but you seem to just be able to keep putting them in, one after another.
My 110 'station wagon' on the other hand ... will take three, but only with some of the second row of seats out (which in my truck - is easier than messing about taking bicycle wheels off). I might be able to squeeze another one in, but couldn't then carry it's rider.
Core - i've just sold my Golf as it was a bit of a faff getting the bike in the back. Bought a a Kia Sportage 2.0 diesel, does 36-39 mpg, its not particularly long but nice and wide and the boot floor is level with the lip so sliding the bike in is easy
Saw a cyclo cross bike packed into the back of an Aston Martin DB9 today at a cross race. Not every day you see that...especially here in Germany!
I'll try to find the pic later but I can fit 2 29ers in a Fiat 500 without loosing the passenger seat.
Impressed at the hard tail in the mini.... Not a chance of getting a large suppressor in mine!
Galaxy.
Loads of room.
Not the most reliable vehicle, but as a caravan dragging, kid hauling, bike lugging bus, it's great.
And does 35mpg most of the time.

Can I play? XL Fargo in an MX5. Yes, the electric hard top did close.

Is it an old Renault 5 Turbo ?? Looks in decent nick.
New Galaxy.
Boot, Islabike 26" or most other 26" HT, and fortnight of family gear for holiday. Seats still go forward if needed some more.

Yeah, it's a Renault 5 made to look like a BMW M Coupe.
tillydog
Is it an old Renault 5 Turbo ?? Looks in decent nick.
Not quite. Its a BMW Z3M Coupe.
I was quite proud of 3 people and 3 bikes in an old style 3 door corsa. I don't think it was too uncomfortable either.
Is300h = roof rack only!
i don't drive but when my wife went car shopping, i had two requirements - the fat fronted jones had to fit in the back and the car can't be maroon coloured (football reasons).
our shiney new fiat 500 works a treat on both count!
Not entirely relevant, but I was thrilled to discover this weekend that my Berlingo will accommodate a fully built and ludicrously big Matchless G3.

I've not quite worked out how I'd strap it down though...
Now that's cool.
This maybe less so:

Medium 2013 Kona Process in an Astra estate. Bit snug with the post up and the back wheel in, usually drop it and take both wheels out.
I have a picture somewhere of three bikes in there and the smaller rear seat up. It wasn't pretty, and I wouldn't want to be back there, but they went in.
