You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I was thinking of doing a ride on one of the days this weekend whilst in the lakes, which would take in the fp over Muncaster Fell (n-s).
Is it worth it or would it be a horrible boggy mess and best stick to the bw around the edge?
Bump
Well I've never ridden that path but I did walk it in May this year. The navigation was tricky and even in May involved skirting some very boggy areas. If it was me I'd stick to the bridleway.
I did a portion of it (by mistake) instead of the BW (W-E) during the summer. It was fairly boggy even then. Whether it improves further along I don't know.
The BW is pretty standard stuff, nothing tech at all, just a means of getting into (or out of) Eskdale.
Nice one cheers, will stick to the bridleway I think
It's a pleasant walk, a trifle moist though as posted above.
Muncaster Tarn is a nice place to break for lunch, if you ignore all the 'No Entry' and 'Private Property' signs. 🙂
Which way were you thinking of heading? East or West?
The bridleway from the Tarn to the Golf Club is a decent non techy descent if quiet, but in all honesty I prefer it as a climb on a bike.
The bird of prey and owl displays at Muncaster Castle are worth catching if you're into that sort of thing.
Did it back in May.

Even at the time I couldn't work out if it was good or not. As people above said, it is very boggy if you go the wrong way ,( I'm not even sure if there is a right way )
The bit in Mitredale Forest is good too:
Not sure how much time you have but this was by far the best ride I did from Eskdale: https://strava.app.link/4NI88A5a4ub
The NE loop of this https://strava.app.link/2Fx9Lkbb4ub is quite good:
