The tool that is sticking up. It's about 8x3x15mmm, with slightly pointed edges.

The SWAT tools are more for getting you home, so if your crank came loose you're able to tighten it up enough to get back.

Yeah, I can’t imagine it will work very well with a tight 8mm bolt.

On the other hand it's better for tightening a loose crank bolt out on the road than the 8mm you didn't take because it was too bulky.

It's a just in case tool, better than nothing.
