I am on Mull in a couple of weeks, and in between being driver for my 76 year old father I should have a couple of hours of time to get some riding in.
The do-it-all gravel bike is going, not MTB.
We are staying at Salen.
Where should I pedal too? Tempted to go on Ulva....
I forgot: @dovebiker
I didn't use my bike much, I was a bit over biked but the road from Salem to Port na ba was pretty decent and it would be a nice pedal right up to the beaches which are stunning.
Having driven it, I'd imagine across to Ulva then up the coast to Calgary and Dervaig, then back through the centre of the island/Glen Aros would be a pretty pleasant way to spend some time on a bike.
More importantly, the Coffee Pot in Salen makes holy-mother-of-god-sweet-baby-jesus-and-all-the-little-orphans-and-the-little-donkey-that's-good whiskey fudge. I mean, reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaally good.
Having recently ridden all round the island all of it bar the main road from Tobermory to Criagnure. the B8035 was a highlight and I also found a Ok gravel route from Salen to near tobermory passing loch Frisa which you could use to make a loop.
And they have the local ice cream which is pretty good.

I welcome this advice. 👍

I've realised that I'm misremembering. It's chocolate whisky fudge. And to quote MrsIHN "oh god, I'd go back there just for that".
And scallop and chips from the van in Tobermory, washed down with a little bottle of prosecco from the Co-op, eaten whilst dangling our feet off the jetty ... *wistful sigh*
Sorry, I’ve just seen this - gimme a shout as I can probably join you. Some options depending on how much time / how fit you’re feeling.
There isn’t that much ‘gravel’ on Mull as many of the forest roads don’t go anywhere / join up with anything and much of the OS mapping is useless since they clear-felled many areas. From Tobermory, you can ride around Ardmore to Glengorm and then onto Dervaig. Ride back via Mishnish Lochs or slightly longer down Glen Aros and back up the main road to Tobermory.
Ulva would be an interesting ride - I’ve only walked a bit there are land rover tracks around to Gometra. Fresh seafood at Ulva ferry is pretty good.
From Salen, you can cross over to Gruline and then ride the coast road along to Gribun and then to Killimore. From there can also ride out beyond Burg to the fossilised tree. This is part of Markus Stitz’s new Wild About Argyll route.
The track from Glen Aros, Lettermore past Loch Frisa is OK but gets a surprising amount of vehicle traffic. You can continue onto Glengorm, or bear left around the forest and over to Dervaig and then the Glen Aros road back to the east and back to Salen.
This was from yesterday’s ride out to Gribun along Loch na Keal
Apologies, the forum won’t let me embed photos 😟
Oh aye, that looks great.
Meeting up may be a challenge - working around father and wife, one of whom has afternoon naps, one who whom is 'good day, bad day' at the moment...It may just be a case of having a couple of hours one breakfast or end of afternoon etc.
I can be flexible on timing, just as long as the dog gets walked and whether I let Mrs DB know to expect me back for lunch or dinner. Weather can play a part, particularly which way the wind is blowing!
👍
Ooh. Like buses you lot, I’m on mull for a week from Saturday staying near Bunessan. Anymore recommendations going? I’ll be taking the gravel bike also for a bit of rd and exploring down to beaches.

Yeah, noticed this, bit frustrating.

Ah bollocks. Spend ages looking at OS maps.
Haven’t taken a bike down as far as Bunessan but there are a few tiny roads down to places like Uisken, Ardalanish. Ride down to Fionphort and then out to Knockvologan, walk across to Erraid at low tide and explore a few deserted beaches.

Cheers @dovebiker looking forward to just having an awesome explore, looking for secluded bays and whatnot. I’ll take a look at Erraid at low tide.
