Best option for my Nukeproof Reactor with Z2s? I'm SKS Mudrocker
I want something that can easily be removed and refitted. It'd be nice if there were a rear option too.
SKS Mudrocker rear has velcro fastenings, it's on/off in a minute.
For the front the Crud XL is the easiest to fit and remove quickly.
I've got mudrocker on the back of my reactor, and a crud XL on the Z2 forks. Actually, they're not on atm as I took them off last week, then it pissed it down on me . First ride in months as well!!
The Crud looked good but it looked like the front section would knock against the bridge all the time..?
Does the rear mudrocker not flap like mad? Aren't there any with stays that can be velcroed onto the seat stay on suitable bikes?

Nope, it's fine on Rockshox, X-Fusion and the rigid forks on my Stooge. I swap it between 3 bikes regularly.

Not that I've noticed - I use it mainly on a 27.5+ hardtail, and it's been solid.
Or the new version of the Mudhugger uses velcro rather than zipties I think.
2.5 inch tyres?
Have a look at the muckynutz one. Can't remember what it's called but it's decent.
Old RRP velcro cloth thing for me.
Mudhugger ii for the boy on all his bikes due to sponsor. Funny thing is, I actually much prefer his, but mine was in spares box.

2.8/2.6
For actual mudguarding I still always end up with a crown mounted guard, they're just better imo- great protection, no impact on clearance at all, and they look better. SKS Shockboard or similar. The Shockboard's mountings are terrible unfortunately but reusable cable ties do the job.
Oh god, those things have always been horrendous. One was so shit I tore it off in a race.
Shame you can't still get the old moto style Marzocchi ones like I had (and still have) for my 66s. They were ace.
I have the mudrocker. It does audibly slap the rear tyre on big impacts / Hucks but not end of world. I imagine it will eventually break with a big Huck. Easy fit / remove though
I will be trying mudhugger once I break the mudrocker
I'm a huge fan of RRP pro-guards... I leave them on all year round, and seem to be the only front fender that actually does anything.
I've one on my stumpy, SS, and one on the OH's Ebike

I need to be able to remove easily without burning through zip ties (metaphorically) for when I want to put the bike in a car.
RRP do fox/RS direct mount, and ziptie mount...
Maybe the z2s (which are fox now, i believe) MAY have bolt mounts? Or get 4 reusable zip ties?

Sadly not. And re-usable zip ties are a pain for this stuff because you need a dangly bit to pull on to tighten up, but that dangles and is annoying. So I'd much rather have a rubber strap, with velcro in second place.
I have the new Mudhugger, it's been great, rock solid. Also easy to attach and detach.
Have the crud XL with over 12 months use. It doesn't protect the stanchions very well and despite Tom's (personal) assurances rattles around a far bit. RRP ftw.
LBS did not have the Crud one, so I bought an RRP bolt on for a shocking £37 (for a bit of plastic). Thr guy assured me it'd fit though I was sceptical.
Turns out that the Z2s have the bosses where the bolts would go on the fork crown, they just aren't drilled and tapped....
I was able to drill and tap where the holes should be. There is plenty of metal.
I was not able to drill both holes in the right places.
I was not able to retain both bolts in my possession, dropping one into the void.
I was able to find another bolt and use a washer instead of the 'special' bolt they supply.
None of the above affected the final result. It's the most solid mudguard I've ever seen, completely rigid. The only question is if it will actually keep all the spray out of my face since I can clearly see tyre when I look down.
Of the final result or the bodged drilling and the mess on the garage floor that is so bad I could not find the dropped bolt?
What about this RRP pro-guard for the rear? It's short but sturdy, does it actually do anything?
If you're riding sat in the saddle only then maybe. If you want to protect your arse when riding down steep stuff you need something extending back beyond where it will be.
So the steeper the trails the longer you need as you'll be squatting further back
For me riding some steep local woods that means even mudrocker without extension piece results in some muck on me

Only for the suspension linkage.
The Mudhugger rear is that long because it needs to be. Shorter and neater ones like the Zefal Deflector RS75 will do 90% but going quick through mud or dirty hardpack I still end up with some crap on the back of my helmet, backpack rain cover, and saddle.
Oh yeah, anyone else tried the Ass Savers Win Wing? It's not really for mountain bikes but I've used on a bit on the full suss and was really impressed with it- it's really flimsy, but it also weighs nothing so it doesn't seem to flap or move around like heavier guards like to, and while it looks a bit daft it's better than most (and comes off faster) Probably very situational about what seatstays it'll fit to though
Oh yeah, anyone else tried the Ass Savers Win Wing?
Yes, it's no where near as effective on the MTB than the grav bike, I think due to the rear tyre being much more aggressive knob wise and throwing up more mud. If it was a touch longer it'd be ok. Very quick to move between bikes though
