You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
It's summer but everyone is talking about mudguards
So, I have two sets of steel rigid forks that don't have mounting points on the lower rear of the legs
Consequently, the stays have to reach all the way to the front of the legs (which they don't really do)
Does some sort of small stay extender exist?
Closest I've found are these from Dia Compe, which are actually intended to mount a guard onto the QR axle, and thus may need a bodge to fit
If they're not easily available, I'd just make some out of some scraps of steel, and they'd probably end up looking a lot like the ones pictured but with the same size hole at both ends. I'd shape and attach them so they ran round the back of the fork legs to be a little less visible if it were me.
edit - have you looked on SJS cycles for the correct things? That shop is a goldmine for unusual parts and spares.
I had to find some extenders for mounting a rear rack recently. Might be worth searching for something for a rack? These are the proper ones for my rack: https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Tortec-Epic-Rack-Disc-Mount-Adaptor_63753.htm But they were out of stock everywhere, and wasn't sure they'd totally solve my issue anyway, so made my own for 3mm stainless sheet.
Or P-clips?
P-clips would probably be the cheapest solution, or things like these to give you a bolt hole:

I would look around the mudguards section of SJS Cycles and you will almost certainly find something that'll do the job.
Bit tatty but I'm using the o-ring fittings that come with crudracer roadbike guards, I thought they wouldn't be secure enough and wouldn't last very long, but have been proved wrong on both counts. With SKS mudguards if it makes any difference.
Crudracer were always top for customer service so maybe worth asking?
Thanks all
I agree that SJS is the first place to look for this sort of thing, but even there I found nothing
I'm reluctant to add mounts when the forks are covered with other utility mounts, so I've done a bit of a hack to get it mounted much higher up
Considered extra long mudguard stays?

Run the forks the other way around
I bought Portland Design Works Safety Tabs for the safety aspect, but they do also add a bit of length. Which was a nice surprise when I discovered my stays weren't long enough.
PDW work fine. I managed to snap one and ordered a replacement here. Black is an option as well.
Thanks, I've bodged my mtb but those Portland things may be perfect for my gravel bike 🙂
