Thinking about rigid forks for this winter-with a 2.6” forekaster up front
Would like to grip rather than float

Many thanks for advice, particularly anyone with experience of simple combo

Mud tyres are normally narrow - 2.1

Thanks Dawson
Aware of new mud tyres in wider formats
Also concerned not enough comfort with narrow tyre on rigid forks

Depends on the mud. Some mud, you want a narrow tyre to cut through it down to the grip. Other types, something bigger, like a shorty sits on the top, and bites in.
I'm tempted by the spesh hill billy, which they now do in 2.6"

My general rule is mud is more 'comfortable' than hardpack, so warrants trade-off of narrower tyres for grip. 2.1 or less is about right. You can still play with pressures at that width to a lesser degree.

And ... there's always Panaracers + Girvin Flex-stem 😆

They LOVE MUD.

Don't understand it. But mud works well for them.

Continental der baron projekt 29er in 2.4 is a great mud tyre. Think a 2.6 version is coming out too
