Anyone else noticed that claggy thick mud you get on bridleways this time of year and in some woods knocks the gears about when you're on the top teeth?

Sunday night ride with a couple of mates and bimbling through the woody bits near a meadow on a cheeky trail that links to a bridleway, noticed I was getting some graunching from the drivetrain.

I was a bit concerned as it's a brand new chain and brand new cassette, and a new to this bike GX Horizon RD and Shifter.

When I got into some light, we noticed that the clag was causing this.

When I'm at the top end, I notice my chain is a bit tight on the tyres.

The bike is a stock 2017 Kona Unit, so 2.8 WTB Trailblazers on Alex MD30's, set up tubeless.  Obviously I've added the gears.

The bike isn't boost, so is this just something I'll have to learn to deal with?, quick shoe over the rear wheel to shed when I need it sort of thing?

On my old 3x9 and 3x10 setups I never had this problem at all.

However I definitely do on the new Eagle XO. Thick and sticky mud causes the chain to skip one tooth on the chainring and immediately fall off. Not all the time but enough to be annoying. I read all the reviews before purchasing and none mention this issue. From talking to other Eagle users I know I am not the only one who is less than impressed in this respect.

I did get a couple of dropped chains as a result too, but it was still infinately prefereable to riding the bike single speed.
