Anyone know how long roughly the Towneley is likely to take? I've got 6h in my head.

Anywhere from 6 to 10 hours for me. I did it last Friday with 4 others in 28 degrees and it took 10 hours. Last year I did it in 6 in cooler conditions.

I reckon it took us about 6 hours to do the actual cycling and another 2 to open and close all the gates. 🙄

How long does anyone think you should factor in for contemplating your poor life choices and wishing you'd just stayed in the Calder Valley and done the fun stuff?

🙂

@stwhannah It's always better to regret things that you have done, not things that you missed out! Besides it's riding bikes, that's always fun (sometimes type 2).

I did it solo in 2021 and it took me about 7 hours moving, out for about 9 hours total.

I did have a few mechanicals, and the jokes about all the gates? They stop being funny after gate #342.

How many miles ?

We did Settle to Glossop Pennine Brilelway, 44/40 miles (84 total) over two days but about 7-8 hours riding each day - all pretty fit, no motors.

It’s not just the number of gates, it’s the fact that each of them has a slightly different mechanism so you have to figure each on out. And they’re places just far enough apart that you don’t see the next one until you’ve got on your bike only to get to the next one almost immediately.

Did I ride it solo in a heat wave for my 10th mtb ride ever? Erm…

I can more or less ride it from my door.

And it’s there.

Chap from the LBS soloed it in a heatwave, only to have a massive encounter with the man with the hammer ¾ way round - last ¼ took as long as the rest and apparently involved drinking from puddles.

Can’t remember how long it took him though.
