I've some Shimano xm900 boots, what is the best method for post winter ride cleaning and maintaining them - leather replenishment etc??

Dry them out, ride again, and repeat. I've never, ever cleaned or treated bike shoes, that's not to say I'm right!.

Stiff brush to get the muck off, maybe a wipe with a damp cloth if I'm feeling particularly attentive .

I’ve never, ever cleaned or treated bike shoes,

Neither have I, but these are cirtainly a little dry, and the laces full on squeek when tied up... Most bike shoes I've had have been synthetic though, not sure about these...

Lately I hose the bike off, and then I turn the hose on myself and wash down my jacket, waterproof shorts, bare shins, grip grab gaiters, and then my Lake boots and the soles.

My boots are leather, and no liner. I should do it more often but I treat the leather with each Leder-Gris water repellent wax oil about twice a year. It's this wax that keeps the water beading and stops it seeping through the stitching.

I usually leave them to dry and then use stiff brush to brush the worst off. However, my boyfriend has one of the greatest inventions ever. A motorbike drier! So now i chuck the sponge all round the outside of the shoes while still on my feet to get the slop off and then get the drier on them to dry them out straight away, shove the hose down the side of your foot and it'll blow any moisture from the inside out while you're at it and put them away clean. You can then use it to dry your bike off, including the chain too. Godsend!

Agree. If they get wet stick some newspaper in them and put them by the dehumidifier or rad. I really can't be bothered to clean riding shoes. That said because of this my shoes look like they have just been pulled out of a swamp

Usually hose them down when I do the bike, then brush off any left when dry.

Apart from the day I had to wade through knee deep flooding a few weeks back. That took two days of newspaper stuffing and sitting in the sunshine

Pressure wash the bike. Pressure wash the shoes. Stick them on top of a radiator... Job done.

Is that enough for a ban?

That’s exactly what i did today except the radiator. Instead I used a hot air blowing boot dryer. Best thing ever. Spent exactly 30sec on my boot cleaning

Pressure wash, stick in washing machine on low temp, spin dry then on the radiator, come out like brand new, wrap them in a towel or whatever in the washing machine if you want it quieter.

If the boots are really muddy I have a brush attachment for the hose, quick brush and rinse off.

That sort of thing, then the boot dryer. Boot dryer is the difference between stinky boots and nice dry boots. Dries from inside out, when I used to plonk them by the radiator they didnt always get fully dried between rides.

Boot dryer looks like this but was £20 on amazon

Usually I dont! Will hit them with a wet brush to get the thick off occasionally. Use a boot dryer as already posted they're spot on.

Normally nothing, but there was about an inch of mud on them this weekend, so I hosed them off when I did the bike.

Just ordered a boot dryer. Never knew such a thing existed.
My Northwave boots have been wet inside since Saturday morning’s ride, despite my attempt to dry them using the usual methods.

If I'm riding from home I'll hose the muck off (if I'm doing the bike there & then) and stick them in the airing cupboard. If I've not hosed them off, I'll bash them together when they're dry to get the mud off.

With yours being leather I'd treat the leather every so often and after really horrible & mucky rides.

Thanks for the responses, I've bought a specific nubuck leather brush and treatment.

Regards radiators, and forced drying I think that's fine with synthetic footwear, but leather needs treatment occasionally - hense the original post.

I have the bootbuddy in my boot and use that to get the worse of my shoes post ride, then leave to dry, I dont use any products or brushes on them.

I finished a muddy ride sunday and on the pedal back to the car saw a deep puddle, raced into that and it did a good job of getting my legs and shoes free of mud!

My post winter ride shoe cleaning procedure is as follows:

1. Get in from ride
2. Remove shoes

I used to clean them but I then realised that they get dirty again within 2 mins of leaving the house so I stopped bothering, they just get a run in the washing machine at the end of winter

Mine are waterproof Vaude Moab AM so just hose them while washing the bike, still on my feet, quick brush if needed. Takes about 30 seconds.

I jetwash mine whilst wearing them and washing the bike. I then stick them under a small desk fan for an hour to blow air right into them which evaporates all the moisture in the fabric.

If not too bad I just stick them in the cupboard above the boiler to dry and then bang them together before I put them on the next time.

If it is absolutely caked then my bike will be too so I hose them off at the same time as the bike.

So just received my Renogy boot dryer. Very good and I like the various timer modes. I made a dryer very much like the pic that yetidave put on above out of a old kitchen drawer which uses a travel hairdryer, it works really well but its not very portable. Does anybody want it...foc including the hairdryer. I'm not wanting to post but if you are in Wakefield/South Yorkshire let me know. I can take some pics when I get home.

Recently had a hot feed outside tap fitted. Absolute bliss. Always have washed myself down outside and then shoes on to a blow air shoe dryer.

I've never treated cycling shoes though

As above, whatever I've used to clean the bike (jetwash, hose, brush) + boot dryer.

I do put them through the washing machine when they start to pong, then give them a thorough soak in re-proofer and wax/polish the non-synthetic bits.
