I am going to be doing an MTB technique course and want to teach bunny hops.
I need a system that is not too difficult to transport.
I thought of these cones

possible solution

The problem I see is the bar is quite solid so if it gets hit it will break and possibly break the cones.
I think some kind of plastic coated metal cane, not too thick might be better as it will give in the middle and spring back.
I have searched but can´t find anything.
Does anyone have any solutions, links you could suggest. Preferably not UK as I´m in Austria.
Thanks

Surely you would use a show jumping/highjump/pole vote system where the pole falls off in the direction you travel.

I would rather it just bounced about a bit as there might be 20 people following each other in a car park jumping over it.

We use these

Bunny hop bar

If your students are new to bunny hops these are safer and easier to reset than the cones.

Thanks.
The reason I thought cones is that they can be used on any surface.
This is basic skills so I don really need a lot of height,

I built one I based on Ali Clarkson's build guide from a few years ago:

They're quite simple to construct using PVC piping from hardware store. Though the corner pieces I used seemed too big for the pipes I purchased so needed electrical tape and inner tube to make a secure fit. I made mine so that it disassembles into a 20l Osprey Syncro backpack for transportation.

I use it for teaching kids. So it’s normally quite low. With the added bonus it can be used as for the high jump competition as well.

I copied a design called 'portable cyclo cross training barrier' from a company called up.bike which goes up to 400mm, which is a pretty decent hop for normal mountain bikers I'd say.

Instead of plastic I made the sides out of 9mm plywood, with a slot in the bottom that fitted another piece of slotted ply (I used 18mm for this bit but am sure 9 would work) to make it stand up on any surface.

for the pole just used a 21mm PVC pipe....if you use a piece about 1m or 1.2m long it has a nice flex to it and having it nice and wide makes hopping seem easier for some reason..maybe as you don't worry about going straight as much??? dunno. I did use two short pieces with a connector...but the connector pieces I got have cracked, so if I was teaching I'd probably stick to one long piece of pipe.

best of luck.

Could you use some elasticated string/rope? Either thick enough to see or wrapped in that spiral cable holder stuff?

You’d need relatively well supported ends so they don’t get pulled over, but might work alright without the need to reset the bar every time.

Thing is if someone hits it unless it bolted down and Rick dolud it's going to move. Surely its better that it gets out the way and the rider rolls out that it breaks/gets caught up in the bike/falls over? Surely that's more hassle than putting the cross piece back on quickly?

Something with spring will still have a limit of how much it bends.
