Can anyone recommend some shorts without the stupid press studs?!

And before anyone makes a comment on 'weight' its not that I am over weight, its just that as soon as I lean forwards or bend down, the silly thing keeps popping!! 😉

They are singletrack shorts, had them about 3 or 4 years. 🙂

I have a set of old Endura Zymes that do my head in for that exact reason. My Humvees are fine though.

I had that problem until a mate of mine pointed out you can just use some pliers to crimp the female section to make it a tighter fit. I have, and now the two pairs of shorts that have annoyed me for years work perfectly.

Obvious really. I'm embarassed I never thought of it.

Had the same problem with my Endura shorts - the press studs just lose strength over time. Mrs R has now sown on some hook/eye things that solve the problem and have saved me from having to throw out my favourite shorts. All my future shorts purchases will have belt loops.

Edit: Tried the crimping trick, it lasted a couple of rides/washes and then they were back to how they were.

As Growmac suggests; they're easy to modify.

Annoying isn't it?

I'll try that crimping. Thanks.

I've never understood why so many of the baggier MTB shorts don't have belt loops. I'm always happier riding with a belt in my shorts, but there again I'm a fat sod.

I gave up on the stupid endura belt clips & buttons (WTF is wrong with a normal belt) and bought a set of braces..

My fox sergeant shorts have what looks like a popper but is in fact a mushroom stud (?) that interlock with the female half (key hole shaped) that keeps it engaged if that makes sense.

a bit like a door chain lock

quality shorts too

They are singletrack shorts

The opposite is even more annoying - when the popper clamps shut so tight that you end up tearing the material trying to take the things off. Button holes just aren't waterproof or aerodynamic though, or something.

Mmmmm at the risk of offending... All my mtb shorts have poppers, and they never pop open when i bend over, because they fit. Get some shorts that aren't too tight for you.

Gave up on a pair of Endura shorts for this exact reason. Now have a pair of RaceFace shorts that, although they too have a popper, stay closed.

I'm not offended 😉

Thats it though, mine are not tight and they fit well. I love my singletrack shorts.

I will try crimping the press stude though, obvious really! 😉

I like the plastic ratchet system used on a lot of the DH shorts (troy lee Moto, Fox Demo etc.), I know they're more expensive but I find them more hard wearing.

You could try some with double poppers offset to one side like these:

Mavic baggies have a different take on the popper. They seem to work well. I'm yet to pop out of mine.

RockGrdn Karma shorts are brilliant. They have an elasticated waistband so they are really comfortable and they come with a useful belt.

I'm with the OP on the poppers, cant stand them and now only buy shorts that do not have this design. You can still get early Endura Singletrack shorts with the belt design on CRC.

What they said ^^ or buy some of the wide-ish velcro and sew in where the popper was - fixed a pair of the Endura singletrack trousers this way. Works a treat. 😀

Have endura altered their sizing?
I have got a pair of 5 year old zyme shorts which have plenty of room for my legs, tried a new pair in shop the other week and they are really tight on the legs.
