Hi all. My friend and I are going to cycle up Snowdon in April, on the day we're planning on doing it the sun won't set until 8.15 so I firgured cycle (walk) up late afternoon and set off back down about 7.30. Allowing about 2-3 hours to climb the thing and about 30-45 mins to get back down means we won't have to set off on the ascent until 4.15-4.30 but we'll be in the area from about 1pm, can anyone suggest or point me to a website with a route about 15-20 miles that we can do in the afternoon before the climb. Nothing too strenous so we can keep our strength for the climb.
many thanks.

You might want to allow a little bit more time for Snowdon to allow for mechanicals / accidents / hissy fits. Much as the descent can be done pretty quickly, there's a fair chance you might get pinch flats and such, or just want to give your arms / brakes a rest!

Which route are you planning?

For stuff around there, I'm not much up on the natural stuff so I can't really help but there're a couple of trailcentres (Marin and Penmachno I believe) not too far away if that's any help.

Have a look at the other side of the valley. From Llanberis head towards Pen y pass but turn left up towards the slate mine (there's a foot path post). Climb all the way up, go through the lower part of the mine and you'll eventually find yourself at a road.

Go right and carry on for a mile, take a right up a steepish road climb, take the left at the top (where there's a disused blue shelter of sorts) and follow that road for another three miles or so.

You will then come to a junction. Take the right to climb up a 500 yards on road, over a gate/cattle grid and up towards a reservoir. Keep going and where the road diverges go right. Carry on up and when the barriers beside the road run out and you see a metal gate go over it.

Then it's downhill all the way through the mines. Eventually you will reach a gate. Go over and turn left and you should recognise where you are as you passed this point on the way up. Go left and descend what you climbed.

Make sure you have a spare tube with you!

Good luck!
