To cut a long story short, I have lost most of the confidence I had on the bike if not all.

In the past I could barrel down the side of a hill with "gay abandon", until recently (18 months). I've had a couple of bigish offs, where nothing was broken bar my ego and skin. Probably in the past courage out weighed skill but I was having fun.

Now, confidence is seriously knocked, and whenever something technical comes up on a trail I feel I need to get off and push round.

Obviously this does not help your fun aspect of riding.

I still love the fast swoopy stuff, and still ok on that but even so I am taking a bit more time than I used to.

So cutting to the chase I am looking at 2 things really, ways to build back my confidence and any recommendations for MTB skills training?

I am in the North West so Gisburn and Grizdale are on my door step.

Thanks for reading and responding.

Thanks I will look into that.

Does anyone have any other recommendations possibly in the NW somewhere?

Cheers

Jedi is well worth the trip - I've been a couple of times in the last 10 years and has dramatically changed my riding for the better.

I’ve driven to Jedi from the North West and wouldn’t go elsewhere.

I’d previously had two other (one group, one 1-2-1) sessions with Ed Oxley which were good, but Jedi really helped me progress.

Confidence will come back if you just keep on riding IMO.

Whereabouts in the NW are you?

Andrew Mee is the right neck of the woods. I really enjoyed his teaching style, nice and encouraging rather than lots of ‘look at me, this is how you do it properly’. He had me doing stuff I can’t quite believe I did. I should probably see him again... https://singletrackmag.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/back-to-school/

A few years ago I had a great lesson with one of the guys from Cyclewise at Whinlatter. It wasn’t really confidence we worked on but certainly at the end I was happy riding stuff I’d have walked at the start

Get in touch with Ben at we ride, does locations in the NW, I did a one to one at Lee Quarry with him, great bloke, took things at a good pace and built my confidence a lot, just booked another session at Farmer John's in Marple with him.

I can recommend Andrew Mee aka Ride with Mee. Think the way he teaches inspires confidence.

Have you not got some faster/bolder/better riding mates you can ride with.  Chasing them round can make a difference.

To the op +1 I had a big off first for a few years, 4 or 5 weeks ago and just back from the alps and think it has affected confidence, never been a jumps and drops rider, but just lost lost a bit of confidence on sketchy rocky stuff and just general confidence at higher speeds.

Will check some of the recommendations out as I could do with a bit of a reset,  Llangdegla is my nearest place think they also do some bits there too.

Timely post as reflecting on my trip and what I could improve on.

Thanks all, some good ideas and recommendations there. Jedi seems to be the one then.

But Ben at Lee Quarry might be an option as a first pass as that's closest.

Rocks and slippy stuff seem to be my demon at the moment where in the past I just rolled over them.

The frustration is, I was the fastest downhill off all my mates there is a nice swoopy run from Darwen Tower where I was once the 8th fastest on Strava (no comments 😉).
