In a weeks time I’ll be off to Dalby Forest for 3 nights camping. Never been there so will be great to ride somewhere different. But I’d love to make the most of the journey back down the M1 towards Milton Keynes and find somewhere to stop and ride on the way. Happy to make a bit of a detour but wouldn’t want to add another 100 miles to the journey. Any ideas of where to stop off?

Peak is the obvious and sensible choice, if you've enough time.

Sheffield ish area would make sense to me drive wise.

How long do you want to stop for?

What kind of riding do you want to do?

That would help folk add some specifics to the locations mentioned above.

Technical climbs and fast, flowy descents would be the ideal. 2-3 hours riding, max 4 hours. Either rocky or rooty, either is fun and living near Woburn I’m much more used to roots.

Wharncliffe sounds ideal for what you want - right next to M1 and there's a lot in a small area.

Peaks is fine if you know where you are going, but you could equally spend two hours of hard slogging for not much fun.

Wharnes is a good shout. Either that or Houndkirk, Devils Elbow and a bit of Lady Cannings.

Wharncliffe would fit the bill for very easy access off the M1.

It's hard to find your way around without knowledge, climbs are generally fire road or push up and DH are short, steep and technical rather than fast and flowing. It'll add 15 mins to your drive.

Cut Gate isn't my favourite but sounds like a great option. Easy parking, easy navigation and a good fast singletrack back down. Add about 30 minutes overall.

Further into the Peak is going to give more in the way of big routes, but eat up riding time. Add an hour drive and endless options.

There's also Greno woods for fast and flowy.
