Been oval for a couple of months now on an RF Cinch system running a 32t chain ring on a Shimano 46t cassette ..the oval action seems more round than a round ring and I have noticed less stress on my ( dodgy ) knees ..it also claims to offer more traction on climbs with a greater power transfer ( more of the chain is attached to the chain ring on your downward stroke & less on the upward ) ..but don't expect major increases ..
The best value / quality ring out there is from Works Components ..I paid £27.00 for the RF Cinch compatible ring and it works perfectly

Been using one for over a year. You don't notice the "non-roundness" after about 30 seconds. Have an oval ring on both hardtail and fat bike, 32T spider mount on the HT, 28T direct mount on the fat bike. Both are Absolute Black, no problems with longevity or quality.

I didn't really notice any difference, They certainly don't make you any fitter, but a nice idea to lower your gearing a little on the deadspot position. (top-dead-centre)

One thing to remember is that the maximum diameter of an oval is about 2 teeth more. Check for frame clearance (depends on your frame/crankset/how big your ring is oo er missus)

Thank all. For £30 ill give it a good if not just see if it helps the old knees. Think ill stick to 32

I've been running one for a few weeks now and only noticed the difference when going back to a round ring where I could really feel the dead spot.

Just fitted one last week and it certainly feels a tad more natural. I'll be sticking with them from now on.

+1 for the Works Components ones. They look a bit industrial when compared to the round Hope N/W it replaced but it does the job and I only paid £21 delivered for mine.

Personally hated mine, especially during low speed grinding. Couldn't get use to the lumpiness of the pedal stroke even after 3 months so gave it away. However the guy I gave it too loves it. The difference is that I have a smooth pedalling action and he is a stomper.
