Sherwood within an hour of Lincoln
Thetford within an hour of Peterborough.
Both are OK, but neither are great.
The road riding round there is great though, quiet, fast roads and much drier than most of the rest of the country

You could head to Market Rasen (Willingham Woods) or further into the Wolds for a little bit of elevation - there's a few loops on All Trails.

Wales it is not.

"About" an hour was maybe stretching it a little, but 1hr 20m to ride cut gate, Vs say Sherwood pines?

I live in Lincoln (and work in Peterborough too) as said, Sherwood pines is about 40 minutes away, similar to Willingham woods just the other side of Rasen, Hamilton Hill there has a few short DH runs (the local diggers have done some brilliant work with the little bit of hill they have!)
Wharncliffe is 1:15 away, ladybower and hour and a half

Thanks all, it's for night riding when staying overnight for work so definitely don't want to be driving for more than an hour.
Will check out local stuff and then go further afield
