Don't know of any MTB round there but the road between Hunstanton and Cromer is quite a nice ride.

wow - what did you do wrong? 😉

I'm not aware of anything out there - not even very many bridleways or anything, closest is Thetford and that's 40 miles away.

As ogg says thetford on your way past, there's a coastal path that takes you all the way from sheringham to blackney/holkham I think. Actually I seem to remember there being a big park in sheringham.

Best bet is along the coast stopping at as many pubs as you can find (which is quite a few).

I found some quite nice stuff near Cromer. Take an OS map and look for the obvious intersections of bridleways and contours near to the coast (generally West of Cromer).

I spoke to someone in a bike shop who told me about some riding in some big park, but I never managed to find it (ran out of time and now long forgotten).

Thetford isn't that far really if you have a car. Or just take an OS map and explore. Or use it as an excuse to buy a fatbike and ride on the beaches.

You could try asking the LBS in Hunstanton? They may be able to help.

You could try Hunstanton Spice Museum instead? Failing that, I know a cracking owl sanctuary.

I can't work out whether it'd be more painful to spend time with the outlaws or visit the spice museum....

Fat Birds are based in Hunstanton. Pop in and ask them. There is good riding between Sheringham and Cromer (where Norfolk keeps most of it's hills) at Pretty Corner, Sheringham Country Park and along the cliffs. Some of it is a bit cheeky mind you.

😆

I'm grew up in Hunstanton and still go back to visit the family (I'm the one that escaped). There are small rolling hills in North Norfolk - it's not as flat as they say, the real flat bits are the Cambridge, Norfolk and Liconshire fens to the West. However it is all arable farm land so mountain biking is non existent. As mentioned above Fat Birds if there is any (and sell you any number of titanium bikes) but road is probably the best bet.
Oh and Thetford is still well over an hours drive as there are NO fast roads in Norfolk.

What are you going to do in Hunstanton in October anyway? It will be almost shutdown. The walking around the coast to the north east is lovely mind.
If you go down to the seafront in 'Sunny Hunny' say hello to my family in Johnson's gift shops whilst you're buying your tacky souvenirs!

Ok - first off there's nothing wrong with Hunstanton! Sure it may not be the busiest place BUT it's a nice place to get away from it all, there's some lovely countryside around the area, and you're not constantly sitting in traffic jams or bumping in to someone else, no matter where you go...unlike the South East!

And riding. Norfolk isn't a flat, wilderness either! Sure, it isn't Wales, hasn't got mega hills, big downhills, BUT if you're prepared to look and string a few bits together, you can have a good ride. Buy an OS map for the area and string a few bridleways (which THERE ARE quite a few of around there) together.

Routes to check out are Peddars Way > long, Roman road, which has a few sharp climbs/downhills. You can put this in as part of a circular ride. A good route would be to head out of Hunstanton, head to the Ringstead Downs (you get to it by a track near Smithdon High School in Hunstanton, near the Police Station). From the Downs you can pick up Peddars Way at Ringstead, then head down the Way. You can go as far as Sandringham and then you can head West, and go back to Hunstanton via he coast path (from near Snettisham).

You can also take Pedders way down to near Bircham Windmill, and you can find other bridleways or very minor roads, which will take you back, North, towards Hunstanton.

Just get an OS map and string a ride together. Put in a bit of planning and effort and you won't be dissapointed.

Oh, and you can also have a cheeky ride around the woods at Sandringham!

THank you for the pointers... I will explore as per Strike's suggestions

Also, can someone explain to me why the riding is "cheeky"...??
