We are booking a 4 day break in July to the Alps for a mates 40th.
Has anyone ridden Les Deux Alpes? Would be interested to here how you found it. There will be 10 of us going and for most this will be our first trip to the Alps. Our riding experience is more at the XC/Trail end of the Spectrum..
Thanks.
Rode there a couple of years back. Some good stuff to ride but we were riding dh tracks, no xc.
The Venosc run is totally epic. Berm after berm of loose ashen dust.
Some of the steep shale stuff up the top is fantastic fun too.
A lot of it can be fairly stout though if you're not a confident rider.
If you can get about there is lots of other riding 'nearby' such as Alp D'huez.
Brilliant place.
+1 for Venosc descent, I don't remember that being too technical, just fast, fun + long. It was a long time agao and was only there for an afternoon though. I'd like to go back.
Alpe d'Huez is not too far a drive away it you want to ride there too.
It's graded - just like going skiing - if you want to pootle, relatively speaking, down blue runs all day, you can. If you fancy upping the ante and trying something more gnarly, you can do that as well.
There are loads of hire shops hiring out downhill bikes and all the protective gear if any of you are feeling underbiked in advance of going there.
Dunno if I'd want to spend four days there though - there's loads of other riding in the area and another bike park at Alpe d'Huez which is not that far off.
I was part of a group and we hired a guide for the week - This Guy. Would thoroughly recommend him to help you get the most out of your time there. Although you don't really need a guide for the bike parks.
more braking bumps than your mind can possibly fathom. im not just talking about the corners. i mean the whole trail. still a fun place but prepare for some hand pain.
How are you getting there? It's not a bad shout to fly and drive for 4 days, if you're into what's on offer. Personally it would be a bit much - i remember it not being that varied, all pretty bike parky and not very natural. I didn't like it others in my group loved it - everyone's different. Means of transport would probably influence where I went more than anything.
If you can move around a bit, then it's quite good as you have got valloire and alpe de huez close by for a change of scenery. If you like trail riding the road closure at la grave is a bit annoying as there is some fantastic riding around montgenevre. Valloire was ace, one of my favourites.
If you're driving out for 4 days I'd be hard pushed to go further than morzine tbh, knocks a couple of hours off the journey and you've got plenty to keep interest for 4 days. If you want to go further into the Alps, look at booking a guide in Verbier, or if you want to stay in one place and not be guided I reckon tignes/val disere is the best option from the riding point of view there's enough to keep you going for 4 days and there's plenty of variation and easily accessible xc and trail rides. There's plenty of trail riding at all the resorts but for a short trip I think tignes/val stands out as being well mapped so you don't need to worry about losing time hunting for stuff.
