Hi

I prefer MTB style jerseys. However I also really like road style pockets on the back.
The MTB jerseys I own and seem to end up with always have side entry zip up pockets.

Any suggestions for MTB style jerseys with road style pockets on the back?

Thanks

What do you mean by a MTb jersey. As far as I can see a road jersey has back pockets and fits properly. MTB jerseys don't. The lack of fit means the pockets don't work well s things flop and fall out.

I pretty sure decathlon do one.
I just had a look and it seems they don't.

Can't imagine it being great in a loose fitting top.
I've got some Madison undershorts with plenty of pockets which do the job nicely

I've got an Endura one I got cheap in a sale. I wasn't thinking the pockets would be any use in a looser fitting top but I've been surprised to find them better than expected. It's not super baggy but definitely less fitted than any of my road jerseys

Yeah, this, I had one and the pockets had limited use for this reason. If you want to carry stuff in pockets, you might be better off looking at some sort of bib-short with built-in pockets. Raceface do once called Stash I think and Specialized SWAT and DHB Trail Storage to name three.

It really is pretty much exclusively for my phone... it's rather large! Didn't become an issue until my last upgrade to a Samsung Galaxy Note 20. Its huge!

Doesn't fit in my MTB jerseys. Doesn't fit in my bar bag. Does fit in my road jerseys.

But I like the relaxed fit of the MTB jerseys. They go better with the relaxed fit of my skin 😄

you can get "relaxed fit" road jerseys - maybe try one of those as a bit of a halfway house

Funnily enough I was thinking the same thing and ended up buying a Rapha top from their Archive sale as well as some Rapha cargo bib shorts. I bought a large top in their looser style in hope it will be less “roadie”. We shall see when it arrives…

Mrs_oab has a Scott jersey with larger zip pocket.

Smaller PAYG phone?

A jersey with a big phone is going to flap about a lot.

I'm a huge fan of bibs with pockets.

However something like a dakine hot lap stealth, 1l or 2l is much cheaper and doesn't need washed after every ride.

I have a RaceFace "under-jersey" which has three roadie style pockets (plus a larger one for a small bladder). It's designed to be worn under a baggy MTB jersey.

Thank you everyone.

I have a couple of Fat Lad at the Back tops with are perfect but their styling went all weird prints with pork pies and cakes. Not my thing! I've just had another look at their site. They seem to have drifted back to their more traditional styling so might get something from them.

It seems bibs with pockets might very well be the way to go.

The under Jersey looks like a good Idea too.

I'm not sure I could do a bum bag (hot lap). Anyone else use one?

Thanks again.

Raceface stash vest works well if you can find one.

Nukeproof bib with thigh and back pockets and no need to wear separate padded shorts. I stuff mine with food, hydrapak500ml, Small med kit and a small ziplock with a spare cable, patches, mag tabs, money.

I don't know about the Hot Laps, never used one, but I really get on well with my Osprey Seral 7. The advantage over pockets is you can carry slightly more, but it's also super stable, sits the weight low down compared to a conventional pack, gives you the option of using a hydration reservoir inside. Downsides? Compared to pocketses, it's harder to access food while actually moving, but you can use the side belt-pockets for that. And of course, you can use it on multiple days without a washing machine getting involved. I love pockets on the road when I'm generally carrying less, but off road I think the bum-bag makes more sense. Then again I'd rather wear baggies etc than full lycra on a mountain bike - I feel it's kinder to other people 🙂

I'll second Ground Effect. I bought one of these ten years ago and its still going strong. I still wear it all the time in summer. Its a great piece of kit.

Like another poster I bought a Rapha road jersey from the "core" range. Cheaper materials, not race fit. I use it when I'm doing very local stuff and all I want to take is a bottle and limited "get home" kit. The pockets in the jersey is more than big enough for a phone - even a large one

Endura Humvee is the obvious one.

What you want is a runner's belt. I much prefer wearing one of these and a loose jersey.

I wasn’t thinking the pockets would be any use in a looser fitting top but I’ve been surprised to find them better than expected.

This was my experience too.

I have a couple of Northwave jerseys that are plain black with a looser MTB cut, and pockets. They have an elasticated waist band which I guess keeps things in check. A quick look at the website doesn't show anything similar in the current range, though. I use them all the time for commuting.

Other options (recommend what you own...):
* SWAT-style bib shorts (I love these).
* Lightweight riding gilets often have pockets. I have an Aussie Grit one.
* CX jersey. I occasionally ride MTB in a Rapha Cx jersey. It's a slightly looser fit than road jerseys I think, long sleeves, and more muted colours.
* If it's just the phone storage you need: https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/basic-running-belt-for-phone-black/_/R-p-2461

Race belts are available from few MTB brands, they are slightly bigger and heavier compared to runners belts.

Decathlon do this one, https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/st-500-short-sleeved-mtb-jersey/_/R-p-301216?mc=8569902&c=KHAKI in various colours. Pockets not completly round the back but not side entry pockets that end up in front of you.

Or this one https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/short-sleeved-mountain-biking-jersey-expl-500/_/R-p-330629?mc=8615849&c=BLACK

Or you could go with their the gravel collection https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/merino-wool-gravel-cycling-polo-shirt/_/R-p-334358?mc=8649187&c=OCHRE

I rate my Gore C3 jersey. Relaxed road fit, decent pockets

As above, this to me is what bum bags Enduro Waist Satchels are for- they’re the mtb answer to jersey pockets. I’ve tried the base layer with pockets approach and eventually gave up and bought one of these to try- Enduro waist satchel

It’s just big enough for what I would previously use jersey pockets for. I pretty much only use a full size rucksack for very big rides or terrible weather where I want multiple spare layers now. If you get the one I’ve linked you can keep a webbing strap in the bottom and run it through the loops at the back in case you want to take off more layers than planned.

The Overland do pretty much exactly what you are looking for in jerseys and also bibs with storage.

Second vote for ground-effect. I wore one of theirs just this week and it's 20 years old. So, value for money.

That Ground Effect stuff looks great, never heard of them before, expensive, but it's mostly Merino so you get what you pay for.
